DYNORUN: 93 CYM R1 with some mods

graph:

vdo of 3rd run:
020215-motoko-dyno01.mpg (5.24mb)

profile of my car and its modifications:
link

hey everyone, i'm not sure if this is good or bad but this is essentially how i purchased the vehicle so i have no idea how a stock rx7 performs. the funny part was my car shot the tube for the a/f sensor (in the exhaust) out quite a few times before they finally tied it down and kept it in there. the guy who dynoed my car said he felt the top end was sorta "holding back" the car and it wasn't revving out smoothly. as you can see on the graph, that's somewhat true. he suggested perhaps i need a tune-up and some new spark plugs. the engine and turbos have about 16-18k on it, chassis has 92k. tell me if this is good for my mods or if something is amiss. thanks a lot!

here are some pictures of my car on the dyno:

* Balanced/Blueprinted and Modified Sequential Twin Turbos
* M2 Custom Remapped ECU
* M2 Medium Intercooler
* M2 Stainless Steel 3" Downpipe
* Greddy Intake
* HKS "Turbo" Stainless Steel Cat Back 75mm Exhaust System
* Mazda Cosmo Fuel Pump

Above are the power mods...so people dont have to go to the link..
anyways seems slightly low...did you know if you were boosting 10 or 12 lbs... did they have the fans on in front...cant tell. Personally I think you should have made 290-300. I'm sure the catback is somewhat restrictive being the older HKS model.

Kai, sweet man! That's a nice looking car there..what mods is on that thing? You're running about 250 hp..I think stock is about 225 RWHP..

I should dyno my car and see what I make..

johnny, i'm boosting 10-8-10 (well, the boost gauge is off by almost 1psi so it looks like 11-9-11 but its 10-8-10.

i'm no expert but it seems that is a little low depending on the boost level. the 2nd graph looks kind of shaky though on the 2nd turbo like it can't hold steady or something.

Unhappy

I would have expected more horsepower with those mods... I mean even with a 20% drivetrain drop in inefficiencies...
That means your only around 310 crank horse power. That seems really low with all of your mods.
I mean with rebuilt modified twins, intercooler and remapped ecu I would expect around 340 around the crank.
Perhaps I am wrong which I might be, but the m2 website "says" that just with their stage 1 mods which are: M2 Reprogrammed ECU, M2 Cold Air Intake System, and 3" Stainless Cat-back Exhaust they expect 270 rwhp.
You have far more than this in mods. You might want to have your injectors cleaned or something.
Just my opinion

Are you getting 10-8-10 in all gears? I know my car had the secondary boost problems cause my wastegate seized shut. That caused a big drop in hp

looks shaky up top
does it feel like its stuttering??

i would definitely check the spark plugs to see what sort of condition theyre in. you also might want to try running 9s in the leading instead of 7s

Nice car! Thanks for posting the dyno info!

How much did they charge you for the 3 runs? Anyway, #'s are definately a little low. Definately change the plugs and wires for starters. You're not getting the full benefit of the 2nd turbo for some reason and seem to be short approx. 50rwhp. Boost is also a little low which would account for some of the lost power(possible leak somewhere). With the M2 ECU, you should be at 12-13 psi.

Numbers are pretty low - but nice looking CYM. That HKS exhaust will set you back atleast 10 hp with it being the most restrictive for the FD. Start with the plugs, wires, and fuel filter. Could be a clogged main cat. Boost should be at 13 psi with the M2 but maybe they had it at stock boost settings. Something's not right. With just an intake, exhaust, and PFC I saw one FD pull 269 rwhp. Get another exhaust, put a hi-flo cat on, and clean or replace the injectors - you should be in the 290-300 rwhp area.

You have ignition problems. Get a new ignition harness for the stock coils. It plugs into each coil and the main harness. START HERE!!!

spyfish, thank you for your very...uh...dire suggestion. i'll take a look at that? coils? do you think its that or just bad plugs? the guy who ran the dynos said he felt the ignition wasn't happening as fast as it should've or something to that extent (don't recall the exact words). would you say that this is a dangerous state for my engine to be in or what? thanks!

Wow, your FD looks ******' sweet.

Everyone posted up some great information for you. Start off with the basic steps that everyone suggested. I don't think you should just have your injectors cleaned out, try sending them out and having them bored. Also, your cat could be the main problem too. Also, most people that get the M2 stage 3 don't come close to what they say on their website.

Well if you have good plugs and good plug wires I would really suspect that ignition harness. I know Chuck Westbrook battled this one for a long time and I've seen it myself. The part is like $50 from Mazda. The leading coil could also be bad and that is $140 from Mazda. I really suggest you start with that harness .....

I have to agree with the people suggesting ignition problems (ie high rpm misfire), because the squiggly top end looks exactly like other examples of the same problem. However, before you go out and buy new coils, trying new plugs can never hurt . Btw, nice car, wow that paint looks great.

the paint is actually a repaint. the original color was CYM but it faded like every other 93 so the previous owner had it repainted. its alright but not exactly my first choice. i wanted silver for its simplicity and versatility. i'll have the plugs checked out and see what happens.

Your numbers are somewhat low.

My friend in his 94 R2 about a year or two ago with about 20,000 miles on the car put down 270rwhp with just a dp, and cat-back.
