Dual canister exhaust discussion
Ive lately been thinking of switching out my HKS Carbon Ti exhaust for a dual muffler setup. I have seen the Apex'i N1 duals, and have also head of an older system made by St Mary (IIRC). 1st question, is there any other options for a dual setup? My HKS Carbon Ti is very nice and light, but the 5" tip is getting on my nerves. I still want something aggressive looking, so Im not sure if I would like the RB or M2 dual tips, plus they are heavy systems. Does anyone know of approximate cat-back weights for the aftermarket systems available for the FD? Thanks

I had the racingbeat dual tip and it was 42 lbs. when I went to go ship it out , that was the same weight for my n1's when it was shipped to me ...the n1 dual tip seemed like it was the lighter of the two but it is not, I think becuase the wieght is stretched out over the entire exhaust as to where the racingbeat dual tip is all at one end...As for other options look for exhaust in japan or over in australia.http://www.smb.net.au/fullsystemsmazdarx7.htm.. I think my next exhaust I will custom make myself...

BTW, you're thinking of St. May for the other dual tip.
IMHO, the N1 Dual is a huge steaming pile of crap. Sounds awful, loud as hell, and fit is LOUSY - you don't look cool with a dual muffler that has half the rear bumper melted all over it.
If you don't like the big can, might want to think about an oval can style exhaust, like the Greddy SP. I love mine - the extra ground clearance is VERY nice too.
Anyhow, PLEASE skip the dual muffler exhausts.

Well, I've had the N1 Duals for about 4 years maybe, yes they're a bit loud, but I like the sound, although as I get older I think more about getting RB dual tips. As far as the fit, I had only a very small amount of melting, that you cant even notice.

I boxed it up and that is what ups weighed it at before I shipped it out...I used the same box and bubble wrap that the other exhaust came in, so there was no loss of material...I never weighed it alone, but I didn't think it could be that much...could the packaging weigh that much? I guess next time it is off I am going to have to put it on some scales to really see the true wieght...
