I've had this done before. EXACTLY as you described it. This is what I did to fix it:

Pulled the driver's side door panel off. Pulled the cable connecting the outside door lock to the inside door lock. All I did was wiggle it back and forth. Well, more like PULLED it back and forth really hard. Then I tested the locks using the key in outside door lock. Used it back and forth and made sure it locked/unlocked. Then put the panel back on and hadn't had a problem since then.

i had it happen the exact opposite way. i could not unlock it. i had to climb in through the rear(right then i was glad i was not one of the 6'6" FD drivers, i was happy to be 5-9.) of the hatch. it was a PITA but i was able to unroll the window and work from there. i just forced the locking mechanism open and never had a problem. oh yeah, the other door lock would open just as far as the drivers door, that is why i didnt go through there. good as new

If you have to take the door panel off, be sure to lube all the moving parts so that you're sure that's not a problem in the future. If something's binding, that's not right, so make sure you don't have anything binding before you seal the door back up.

jspecracer7, you say disconnect the cable connecting the outside door lock to the inside door lock. Is this the green cable? or is it another cable? thanks alot. -Jeff
