To Drift or To Grip?

Actually, the fastest drivers on course are usually drifting by definition. The cornering force will increase as the slip angle increases, up to a certain point. The gentle crabbing to the side as the car corners, well that's technically drifiting. This does require good balance between the car and driving technique. But the 'drifting' you guys are referring to ... well, yeah, that stuff is NOT the fastest way around the course. High slip angles slow the car down.

Now if you want to make YOUR car drift, well that's relatively easy. It's called toe out on your rear alignment. And as you go through a long turn (on a track or in a parking lot, I hope), just stomp on the gas. You'll drift ... and then you'll spin. Have fun with that ...
