Drain the oil when taking out the turbo pack?

As per the title, do I need to drain the engine oil when removing the turbo pack?

The reason why I ask, is that in the FSM, it simply says lift the car and drain the coolant, then remove the hardware - it makes no mention of draining the oil.

Don't really want to get to removing the oil lines and have several liters of oil dump on my head!

Thanks!

No, you don't need to drain the oil. The oil return lines are well above the level of the oil in the pan.

You will, however, lose several ounces of coolant. You will want a pan of some kind to catch the coolant in the turbo lines.

Though Max is correct as always, if you are installiing a new set of turbos or a newly rebuilt set of turbos, you always want to break them in on new oil. Also make sure you purge all oil lines leading to/from the turbos of all old oil. The last thing you want to have happen is contaminated oil damage the seals/bearings in that new set up.
