drain coolant?

i'm working on my FD in autoshop class, and i was looking at the proceedures on Mitchell OnDemand5.

i'm swapping out my twins for another set of stock units i got. anyway, the first on the list of proceedures is "drain coolant". is this absolutely necessary?

No, but if you don't have pan ready to catch the coolant that comes out when you disconnect the turbo coolant lines.

on a side note, it took a while to unbolt the downpipe from the turbos. i guess all that heat caused the threads to nearly cease
