DP, MP & stock catback = loud exhaust?

Tonight I got pulled over for having a loud exhaust. I have the setup as described in the subject. I wasn't in high RPM's, about 2k, I was turning on the on-ramp to the interstate. The cop was at the V of the road I turned from and the on-ramp. He backed up and the got me when I was on the interstate. He just asked what kind of exhaust I had and I said "It's a stock muffler sir", that's not lieing but not the whole truth. He looked at the car, but he told me, "I can't see anything, like a high performance exhaust system, but you've done something to it." How can I take this to court and fight this? I in no way admitted to being guilty and he didn't see the MP in the exhaust. (I'm putting the cat back on just in case when I go to court because I AM fighting it.) Thanks in advance for any help that's givin...

With age most mufflers tend to open up. You can say your muffler IS almost 9 years old, and any mechanic can admit that old mufflers will tend to sound louder than newer ones, but if the muffler has no rust holes in it, there really isn't a reason to replace it. You can say EVERY state is different in their laws, and you are still under the limit for federal law.

Does it sound strange to have no cats and the stock muffler?

The DP pre-cats are clogged and the car barely runs. So, I'm just putting the stock cat back in it. I almost wanted to laugh in the cops face when he told me that's what the ticket was for. My car is now was close to being loud, actually, my buddies stock Stealth is louder than mine is. The stock cat-back is in decent condition on the outside, the inside is probably all messed up though.
