Downpipe: MS w/jet hot vs. SS: weight diff?

Probably a stupid question and asked a million times, but the search didnt quite turn up the results I was looking for.

First off, is there much of a weight difference between an HKS MS downpipe and, say, an M2 SS one?

Basically...if I am going to spend $300 on a downpipe, should I go with a SS and not jet-hot it, or buy the MS and get it coated? Thanks!

MS and SS DP are about 3 lb in difference. I don't think it's really important to have MS coated unless you drive in snow a lot. DPs get really hot and any moisture, rain will get burnt in no time so salt would be the only enemy. It's not worth jet coat anything, especially the MS DP. You might as well just get the SS if you are worried about rust and save yourself the jet coat money and save yourself the extra weight. Besides, the M2 SS DP has slightly better flow than the MS HKS DP.

yeah, I don't think jet hot coating is really worth it for the DP. Supposedly it helps reduce radiated heat, but that's kinda hard to tell... I had mine coated and I still see the effing thing glowing when I look under the car after a hard run. Personally, I think it's a waste of $100.

(I've got the M2 SS w/ jet hot coating).
