Hey all Ive searched and searched and I cant find any info on how to remove the drivers and passenger side power mirrors any help or suggestions at all would be great I have the door completely apart and still cant seem to find the bolts to remove.

The mirrors actually pivot to reveal 2 screws that hold them to the door. I believe these two screws are the only thing, but don't hold me to it. It took me a while to figure out that they would pivot so that i could fix a rattling/loose mirror.

Yeah, once you know those two screws are there it's probably one of the easiest installs on an FD. I'm not sure if you took your whole door apart just for that but for anyone else doing the same thing and maybe using the search, you can remove the mirror with those two screws and actaully plug the mirror in by removing the door speaker, and the connector should be right there. Removing the speaker to connect the wires saves you some time in not taking apart the door.

i had to do the this when a deer ran into the drivers side of my car and had the mirror broken off

sorry to resurrect this thread, but I was searching for some how-to's on removing the passenger side mirrors. I plan to repaint them this winter due to slight fading. I found some other threads, but I think this was the best.

So, if I understand this correctly, all I have to do is pivot the mirror to reveal to screws, remove those, then pull it out some, revealing the wiring harness (power mirrors), unplug that, then I'm good to go and it's ready to take to the paint shop?

I guess what I don't get is what was mentioned above about going through the speakers in the door panel, etc... etc...

Advice is appreciated.

He was just saying instead of taking the whole door panel off to get to the electrical connector for the mirrors you could pull the speaker grill off and get to the plug from there. I doubt there is enough slack in the wire to get to it from the mirror mount hole.

If you've still got stock speakers, or any speaker in the door, you're not getting to the wiring harness (it's not long enough to pull up to the mirror hole on the door) without removing the speaker assembly, and that usually means removing the door panel. You will definitely have to remove the panel if you are using the stock speakers or the stock speaker housings. The passenger side panel is just a little more aggravating too, because you have to remove the window switch in the door handle in order to access one screw that retains the panel to the door shell.

Okay, I understand the wiring harness issue now. However, I am getting different responses from folks. A few folks earlier said you can access the harness via the speakers in the door, without removing the door panel. Hence, all I would have to do is remove the wiring harness that goes to the power mirror via the speaker, then unbolt the mirror, and voila.

But now you're saying the entire door panel HAS to be removed? Which is it? Who has done it without taking the door panel off?

There is a large hole in the bottom of the door shell for the speaker assembly. It is a rather large unit itself. Just removing the speaker grill will not give you access to all the bolts needed to remove the unit. The door panel has to come off. Bottom Line. If someone has done this without removing the panel and the speaker assembly, then they are either not using the factory speaker enclosures, or they damaged the ones they have trying to do this.

I think you missunderstood. You can't remove the speaker grills without removing the door panel. The connector for the mirror usually hides behind the speaker box. It can be pulled up if you're lucky, but it's easy to remove the speaker box anyway.

So you can get to the mirrors screws on the outside of the car by pivoting the mirror? Or you have to remove the panel/speaker box then pivot the mirror on the outside to get to the screws on the inside of the door?

Yes, you can get to the 2 screws that hold the mirror in place by just pivoting the mirror. However, to COMPLETELY remove the mirror, you not only have to do that, but also remove the entire door panel, remove the speaker grill, undo the harness that goes to the mirrors, THEN you can remove the mirror.

Is that correct guys? Thanks for explaining... I guess I have a lot of work to do for a simple paint job Oh well, it's not till this winter I guess...

98% correct. You do not have to remove the speaker grill, rather the speaker assembly that is mounted on the inside of the door shell.

Awesome, I just stumbled across this randomly. My passenger mirror is a little loose and I've been meaning to tighten it up for a while but never got around to it. Wasn't sure how to go about it, but I'm pretty sure now it's just a case of tightening up those two screws.....

Great thread. I've got the door panel off, speaker out, mirror harness unhooked, but I can't get the damn screws out! I think Mazda installed them with Loctite (or something similar) on my '94. I've tried WD-40...no luck. Any other suggestions?

i would try some PB blaster! stuff works wonders and will get at any kind of rust. you can buy at any auto zone parts source place.

I'm resurrecting this thread because I was in the door today hoping to get my speakers installed and the mirrors swapped out.
Only to find out the back screw on the mirror is basically unreachable. There's not enough clearance to get to the screw head let alone attempt to unscrew it.
So the question is, can the mirror housing be pivoted further than the 2 allowable clicks it's got?

Nevermind gentlemen.. I was a rookie and didn't try the opposite way.
I just went out and checked on the mirrors. The mirror will let you tilt towards the car 2 clicks, enough to get to the front screw.
Then you return the mirror to its original position and tilt it away from the car allowing you access to the back screw.

I'm sorry I didn't think of it at the time. I was still ticked on not getting those speaker adapters for my new 5.25 speakers.
But I did order them so they should be here within a week or so.
