Door lock

I just noticed today that my passenger side lock in the inside doesn't always lock and unlock. I have a aftermarket alarm and I'm wondering if that has something to do with it. Its weird some times it works sometimes doesn't. I pulled off the door panel and check to see if the cables were pinched and they were both ok. I'm also wondering if I just need to replace the actuator motor. I hope not it looks like a pain in the *** to replace, tight space and all. Any ideas ....? Thanks..Tony

Stock the driver's lock controls the passenger side lock. If it isn't moving smoothly or moving enough, then you need to check the motor, the actual lock assembly in the door, and the control rods.

I have the same problem, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Flybye - This first pic is the drivers side lock mech with an aftermarket door solenoid correct? What would need to be adjusted to ensure consistent operation of the passenger lock?

And this is the passenger side with a factory solenoid?

These are from two cars that are not mine, I am just trying to get a better understanding of the lock mechanism.

Thanks

Mine doesn't look anything like those pictured. It looks like they added aftermarket solenoids on those doors. The stock solenoids are inside the door under the door handle. Its reallly weird I'm wondering if there is a relay that isn't working properly.

All my rods have been replaced with bent lengths of coat hangers. Oh well, whatever works.

My rods we all messed up and I spent some time with the panels off locking and unlocking the doors to make sure the bends were right for full movement.

just a thought then - if i felt up to the task, i could add aftermarket solenoids to the driver and passenger doors and have keyless entry that is self sufficient, in a effort to bypass my factory locks and the random locking problem?
