Dont know if i want to take my 7 to school

Ok well... this is my problem, my rx7 is in dallas where i live when im not at school and it just sits there when i am at school, what i drive on a day to day basis is my jeep. yet i really wanna bring my 7 to school because i love the car so much and people would think its a space ship (yes they would because i go to school in stephenville tx and they have "seen UFO" lol ) but my problem is that i am no where near a mazda dealership also im 2 hours away from RP. So if something brakes im kinda up the creek. yet there is enough mom and pop shops that could work on it if need be...

so all in all what would you do?

I'd say leave it at home, the car is really not worth all of the attention you seem to desire. Chances of vandalism and theifs.

Truth, the car usually screams for attention on its own, don't give people the chance to mess with it.

I would venture to say, you would have some useless **** key it or cave a fender in or door ding it at the very least....high school kids can be a very jealous, fucked up bunch.
You need to drive it to some school function just to let everyone know what you have....though the Lord cautions against Pride.....

First of all, you should never take your FD to a Mazda dealership, period.

Secondly, it sounds like you don't work on your own car at all, and therefor probably don't have a set of tools at school with you.

Leave it at home where it is safe.

i would love to work on my car but where i live we can not do any serious work on the car in the parking lot,

i dont mean to grab attention there are plenty of nicer cars here at the school i just miss driving it and want to drive it more than once a month...

and yes i do have my set of tools i was helping my friend work on his truck in the parking lot here and then the management called the cops and gave him a ticket...(gay i know)

leave it at home!. the Honda boys will vandalize you for sure. you answered most of your own questions in your post ( far from rotary shop, nowhere to work on it where you live, parking in school lot, etc.) why would you want to expose the car to unnecessary parking in school lots anyway?

If you are capable of working on your car, and have a really really nice set of tools, go right ahead. I won't discourage it, since I did it. The tool box goes with me on all of my long trips (usually home, 250 mi), because you will feel uneasy without the reassurance.

It would be ill-advised to tell you to take it with you if you have no type of mechanical experience with the car, and are unwilling to work on it yourself when something goes wrong.

And also speaking from experience, while you're going to school, you honestly don't need any external stresses to add to your (probably) already tedious studies.

It sounds like you'd have this car parked on campus 24/7 then? If that's correct, then I'd advise against it. You gotta remember this is college and your car is parked amongst many others with careless and carefree owners. It's likely someone will open their door and ding your car or worse. It's a shame but that's just how many college students are. I don't own an FD, but seeing how parking can be at college first hand, I would never bring it to school with me if I did own one. Maybe if you end up living off campus in an apartment and have your own driveway, then it would be more sensible to bring your FD with you if you wanted to have it at school.

When I was at university, I drove my car their everyday. However, since parking wasn't free, I would leave it at the local shopping center where I didn't have to pay. I never had any issues but since the car was left off campus it might not be a good example. Basically nobody ever knew I owned an FD.

I brought my FD to college with me. I live in Dallas normally and now I'm 3 hours away in Stillwater, Oklahoma (I'm a OSU student). I'm not say it's a good idea, I'm just saying I did it.

I don't know what to do about your car, but make sure you enroll in an English course that includes grammar.

You have a daily driver, so use it. Keep the the FD nice. So what if you don't get
to drive it everyday. That will keep the miles off it.

I don't bring it

Given your title, it seems like you're leaning towards not bringing it. Plenty of good reasons already have been listed. I'll just add that I'm also in college, I leave mine at home for all of the reasons already stated.

I'm going to second RLaoFD, you don't need or want the extra distraction. You need to focus on studies, not on the attention your car gets.

As far as missing it... I haven't been able to drive mine in 4 months; before that, I would always go back home every other weekend to drive it... I mean, see my parents :P But really, there's quite a few people on this forum that have gone longer without it and have college/jobs to focus on... I miss mine as much as you miss yours, but I know that if I had the car over here after it gets its new wiring harness, I'd be too worried about it getting dented or something, or aching after a lecture to go out and drive it rather than study and do homework.

Just leave it at home, it's safe there, it'll wait patiently for you

Mine has been at home for the past 3 1/2 years I have been at college. I've seen so many cars damaged in the parking lots from people either being inexperienced drivers or not caring when they back up. If you do take it to school, be careful where you park on the weekends. I go to a party school and I have seen small **** get tossed off balconies onto cars down below. Buy a cheap Honda civic for college.

My 7 takes me to school!

Otherwise, I had a Prelude when I left for college... turbo'd, custom paint, kitted, shaved handles, the works.... I didn't keep it longer than one year into college: I had no place to work on it, no place to park it regularly (nothing covered), nowhere to show it off, and I slowly learned that I couldn't keep up the maintenance on a car that demands it. If you can keep it at home, that would be my recommendation, fwiw.

For the record:

He lives in an apartment right outside of the school in a gated, parking garage. It would never see bad weather (rain, sleet, etc). However, there are still potential problems there.

As previously mentioned, yes, it could be backed into, door dings, poor choices on others behaves. With this, keep in mind that the likelihood of any of this happening is just as likely if he were to wreck it back home away from college on a weekend. I think we all take chances when we're on the road or leaving our car parked somewhere; college or in the safety of the home garage/driveway or street. Additionally, thieves and vandalism can and will happen the same at home or away at college. I do agree there are more chances with college kids, but again, the risks do occur anywhere.

I say do whatever you want, just be extra careful. I can't really say which is better, but I would lean more towards leaving it at home. Albeit, the risk(s) are great just about anywhere, it shouldn't limit our freedom to enjoy ones vehicle.

Don’t worry, Stephen; I’ll drive it while you’re away.
