dont hate me for asking
Yeah a 240 is a good starting car. I might buy a 96 5spd soon, i have to check test drive it first.
But if you really want an FD, go for it. Before i bought mine, i had hell with my dad and friends saying the car sucks, it has problems, the engine is horrible, insurance will rape you blah blah. Well i got it anyway cause it was the car i wanted and i proved all of them wrong.

Exactly
If the kid still lives under their roof, doesnt matter if the kid makes 200k more than the mom and dad, they have to follow their rules.
If he/she doesnt like it, they move out, then they can do whatever they want.
my fd is my 4th car, ill be 21 in march and never had an accident nore a tickit. im not sponsored by mommy. i live in a small *** town so i dont have a great job. it took me almost a year to find the right car for my 1st turbo car and the fd was it. i dont redline it and all that other crap either. im really into exotic cars so i sold the eclipse and used that as a down payment cause im not rich. my ins. went really high but the cars worth it to me and its one of my main intrests.
i picked mine up for 15k out in CT.
if u think u can do it then go for it, u only live once and honestly no one knows how long theyll be around for so live your life up
and god forbid u cant afford it after u buy it just sell it and lesson learned, no biggie

First of all don't pay cash for it if that's all you have saved. Second if your free income isn't that much say $300 a month or less I would pass on the fixer upper idea. Third I would do some soul searching as to why you want it.
Trust me a faded FD doesn't draw much attention.

If you've got the money in a savings account and you're making minimum wage, take that money and invest it. Sometime in the future, if you invest it wisely, you'll be glad you did and won't have to worry about paying 8k for an FD and how to scrounge up the money to fix it when it breaks. You will have moved on to much more rewarding experiences and have the money to fullfill those indulgences. Whether it be an RX-7 or something else. If you watch most people that have money and "earned" it, they will show you one thing. They didn't blow every penny they earned on something that depreciates and rots as the years pass. Why be the guy driving the FD now, when down the road with conservation and intelligence, you can be the guy driving the Ferrari and still own an RX-7

.may be some parents do have some kind of control over their kids. may be u just jealous teengers like us can own a FD, may be u can get over your jealous and wish that kid good luck not try to scare him "if he gets a FD he might get kill or something". i'm always my parent's baby and i do respect them a lot. i earn almost everything i got, and they don't have question about it what so ever.
Not a good idea
Yeah man, I just turned 18 and got my Fd when i was 17 and i have had the car for just a few monthes and all i can tell you is that be prepared to have unknown expenses come out of no where, and make sure you have a lot of money saved up for those.

Here's an idea, with the 8k, you can put down a partial down payment (say, 4 or 5k) and use the remaining 4k for monthly payments while you work. Have your parents co sign, and this way, you will have a nice reliable new car.

given your money situation, i've said it already but i'll say it again, get a clean swapped 240sx and you'll enjoy it and it won't kill you with cost of upkeep and it gets 20mpg to boot. AND you'll have money left over in the bank

I was actually talking about getting a brand new car (FD down the road).
I bought my FD from a used car dealer afor 17k (kbb price) bone stock with 56k miles. I've had it for a few months and I've had no problems with it.
However if you do decide to get an FD.....
Keep in mind though, even whle buying from a dealer, chances are is that the FD will be sold AS-IS. If the dealer offers a warranty, it would be wise to call the warranty company and have them send you a letter saying that your FD will be covered. I've head of places that just sell you the insurance for 3000 extra and when you car breaks, the company will say "sorry, your car is not covered".
One more thing, buying from a dealer does not imply that you car will not have problems. It's up to you to determine if the car is ok. Rob Robinette's website has a third gen car buying guide. I suggest you go there, read through it a couple times if you are not familiar with the rotaries. http://robrobinette.com/buyaused.htm
Check for oil leaks, coolant leaks, smell the exhaust, see if the car starts up right away, etc, Dont forget to get a compression test.
Dude seriously bad idea at your age. I don't give a **** what all the other 16 year olds on this site say - let the people with years of ownership and life tell you reality: buy something else until you're familiar with cars. Then in 5 years or so think of picking up an FD. Otherwise you're just walking into a bad situation.
I really wouldnt go out and finance a FD as your daily driver. I did finance mine but i have a 94 prelude that i drive daily, while i work on the FD. I did purchase mine for about 8k but i had to go out to texas and get it.
I would make sure that you look into other things such as insurance before you purchase one of these cars, as it can be prety expensive. Overall i think you would be better off with a 240 or somthing similar.
I also dont believe this car is good for young unexperienced drivers. They can be pretty unforgiving at times.

If you live with your parents, which I expect that you do, they have more control that you think. What would you do if they told you to sell the FD, or move out, and be cut off from any financial support. Most likely, you would be forced to sell the car.Grow up ........... unless you really are 8 years old

and if i do live with my parents, if they ask me to move out or cut my financial support my grandparents will kill them. i pay for my school, car, everything i own. since i move out year ago, i don't really have any financial support from my parents.
may be u can grow up, this day is not your childhood anymore. i'm 20, i can support myself.
