doing Vacuum hoses, is it possible to use American size hoses?

Ok, i'm short on time and can't wait for 4 and 6mm hoses to arrive. I'm wondering if i can use American size silicone hose in inch unit measure?

4mm = .16 inches
6mm = .24 inches

The inside diameter of the american inch silicone hose is 5/16 which is equivalent to .156 inches and the 1/4 is obviously equivalent to .25 inches. I don't forsee a problem with the 4mm hoses, but the 1/4 is obviously bigger than the 6mm. Would this pose a problem? Fitment issues? I can have the hoses by tonight if the inch unit measure hoses can be used for the vacuum hose replacement.

As long as they are silicone you should be fine. Just be sure to zip tie everything really well becasue of the slight difference in diameter.

Except for the few hoses that attach to a barbed fitting, zip-tying the hoses is unnecessary.

As far as hose size goes, your math is pretty far off there....

1/8" = 0.125 = 3.2mm
5/32" = 0.15625 = 4mm
3/16" = 0.1875 = 4.8mm
7/32" = 0.21875 = 5.6mm
1/4" = 0.25 = 6.35mm
5/16" = 0.3125 = 7.9mm

Rynberg, you're right. That is the second time today that i called 5/32 5/16 instead. In my original post, i meant to say 5/32. Sorry for the confusion. I've dealt with too many numbers today

Thanks for the information guys! It looks like i will be getting the 5/32 and 1/4" silicone hoses.

All my hoses are 4mm and 6mm silicone from Baker Precision and I never zip tied any of them though I did reuse the metal spring clamps on things like the wastegate and precontrol actuators. Never blown a single one off in god knows how many race events.

Most of them even survived fire

3.5mm hoses fit the stock nipples FAR better than 4mm - less prone to popping off. You want a nice, snug fit.

Going with imperial sizes, I'd go with 1/8th ID.
