doh! first the clutch, then the turbos, now the motor!

yeah, well my buddy over at ART (see my sig) just did a compression test for me.

Compression test results:
front rotor 85psi
back rotor 72psi

the car will still start / idle, so it can't be that bad. i'm not driving it of course, it's off the road now.

what bummer. i just bought this car earlier this year. the original owner said he "babied" the car and it had only 29k original miles. since that time i've put less that 2k miles on it, and i've had to replace the clutch & flywheel, rebuild the turbos, and replace lots of little things here and there (fluids, hoses, bearings, etc)

so now it looks i'll be needing a rebuild. i guess this can be a good thing in that i'll have it street ported w/ 3mm seals, but still that's money i didn't want to spend for a little while...

rotary woes....

How does that compare to the compression when you bought the car?

well the owner didn't give me any paperwork when i bought the car. when i talked to him over the phone (prior to buying the car), i asked about it and he said that he had one performed recently and it came back fine. he didn't know the numbers off the top of his head. who knows if he was making it all up not.

Bummer Tom. I know how you feel! It sucks to buy an FD in hopes that it will run for a while, then BAM! I am so jealous when I read about guys like Rich who has been running a modded FD for 4 years without issues

V8s belong in camaros.

Theorie, with only 31k miles, your compression should not be that low. I'd start looking for the cause of your problem, I recommend verifying that your oil metering pump is working properly.

Also, 3mm seals are not needed on a street car, I'd save your money and stick with a nice ported 2mm motor.

i plan on going with a nice single turbo fairly soon, so it might be better to get them now...?

60psi is the minimum acceptable, assuming he ever had it tested. You can have pretty ratty compression and pass that standard.

My current setup is a 400+ rwhp single, and I've built quite a few 400+ rwhp motors, and they all had oem 2mm seals. I certainly don't want to start (another) debate, but 3mm seals are *not* required in this case.

Damn, only 31k miles and poof?

What made you get a compression test? Or did you just do it just for reference?

Anyway, now its time to build it better and faster.
