The AT flywheel (Flexplate actually) has a seperate counterweight.
Most aftermarket lightweight flywheels require the use of the AT counterweight.

I should have clarified... Im converting form a auto to 5 spd, this has been one area i was unclear on... I have the 5 spd flywheel... so if i take the auto flywheel off and the auto counterweight off i should be able to just bolt the m/t flywheel on without a counterwieght! right?

I did that once, the engine ended up having bad harmonics (shaking) in 5 places through to redline.

Since the OEM MT flywheel has most of it's weight near the edge of the and is balanced there moving it between engines can be a crap shoot. The AT counter weight places the moment near the center and is balanced producing less of a mismatch.

Once I went to a light flywheel and the AT counterweight the harmonic was gone. Considering the labor involved to pull the tranmission to change flywheels you might want to take the safe route and put a light flywheel on to start with.

Keep the AT counterweight and get a lightweight flywheel
