Does anyones FD not leak oil?

I just got my engine rebuilt in Dec. and it's already leaking some oil from the block/oil pan seal. They used RTV to seal it and it looked like they did a good job. Is this something that often happens no matter what you do? I'm guessing there's not much I can do about it short of removing the pan and resealing it?

I was really hoping I finally would have a car that had a dry oil pan

For some stupid reason, Mazda used a flimsy gasket for the oil pan seal. Most rebuilders do not use a gasket, but use a sealant instead.

When I bought my FD it had a Mazda remanufactured engine that leaked oil at the oil pan. I had it fixed but I don't know if they used a new gasket or just RTV. I am now leak free!

Exclamation

Mine had a few leaks that sprung up over the summer. I got them taken care of and have no leaks.

Knock on wood! But mine doesn't leak oil at all. I did have a gear oil leak though, from somewhere around the gearbox. It acted up only when under serious pressure I guess and would drip enough on the middle cat. to smoke and smell. Had it resealed when I got new clutch. It was horrible and embarrasing. Thank God it was nothing serious though.

to be perfectly honest the oil pan is not very thick and can get tweaked rather easlily....I would actually prefer getting a new one and then sealed up with silicone.

I don't think Moroso makes one for the 13B-REW, just 13B.

Knock on wood, NO leaks here.

'94 original motor, 90k miles........NO LEAKS!

That was THE major reason why I bought this particular FD when I was looking at them a few months back.

Mine leaks. It is either the oil pan or rear main seal. About 2-3 drops per week.

I have fixed/had fixed all the other leaks.:

-the oil pressure switch
-the oil fill tube oil ring
-the gasket at the plastic intake elbow
-the turbos blowing massive amounts of oil

Mine is a factory reman...and I can see the sealant sticking out of the side of the oil pan seam...but I think it is either the oil sensor in the pan, or the motor mount bolts that go through the pan!

I thought I was the only one with a leaky 7!

Is the oil pan something a good wrencher could do them selves or is it best left to a specialist?

Later,
Patrick

I've been chasing leaks for months but I think I finally got them all. I had rear main seal, turbos, and oil pressure sender, plus my ABS pump leaked brake fluid . So after big $$$ to replace and fix things I think I am leak free. I can't stand leaks, even small ones.

I had the rear main seal replace so that should be ok. The oil returns on the turbos leaked but I just put on a single turbo kit and that hasn't leaked at all. The oil pressure switch I'm pretty sure isn't the source, and the oil fill tube gasket was replaced also.

I don't know how to fix this except with the use of an engine hoist and removing the engine mounts and then the pan. Maybe I could weld the pan to the block.....hmmm. j/k

After crawling under the car a few times thinking about doing mine I came to the conclusion that either the engine needs to be lifted up or the subframe dropped out. That was more than I wanted so I let somebody else do it. It seems that $250-$300 is the going rate to have the oil pan gasket replaced.

I leak everywhere. Fixed the pan, but seems that the front cover leaks bad. It blows onto the exhaust and smokes after driven hard. Anyone know where a good link for instructions on replacing the front cover? I'm not paying Mazda $1200 for a $15 gasket. Turbo oil return lines leak a little also. Replaced the oil pressure sender and fill tube gasket.

When you have an oil leak from the pan, use silicon sealer, dont use the gasket, they suck, when i rebuild motors, i always use silicon, never had leaks.

Just had new motor installed. I'm leaking massive amounts through god knows where, to much oil to tell the source, guessing oil pan gasket. Have to add 1 quart per week.

Sounds like my leak(oil everywhere). I had Mazda tell me that some of the recent reman motors had bad gaskets - I fogot which one exactly. I think one was the rear main seal. Anyone getting a reman should have all the gaskets replaced before installation.
