Does anyone still run a stock airbox?

My car is mostly stock, and I want to keep it that way except for a few basic reliability mods (dp, AST, Y-pipe). For you guys doing the same, did you change out your intake too?

I don't want to add power yet. Maybe in the future.

If the stock airbox is ok for now, anyone know of a good how-to on changing the stock air filter?

Thanks.

94 R-2, 53k.

I run the stock air box, a drop in, and the RB Scoop. It's not I deal I guess, but I like it because it is quiet.

If you don't want to add power, then there is no point to changing your airbox. As far as changing the filter, it is as simple as taking off a few screws and disconnecting a few hoses, although some of the hoses can be a pain to remove. It's the same as changing the air filter on any other modern car.

The stock box with K&N filter and RB intake duct works fine for me. You can also just put in the K&N but the cross-over duct is very restrictive. Just pull off the cross-over duct, remove the airbox bolts and the hoses on the back. Going to the RB duct gave better turbo spooling response but made the 3k hesistation problem worse. I don't think you'll notice the 5hp or so the K&N will do by itself but it's a cheap $50-60 mod if you want to play with it a little...

I don't see how your 3K hesitation problem could be exacerbated by the RB duct... Are you sure about that?

A K&N drop in filter will give you better air flow, and is a very good change to make. I run a modified stock air box. Check out this thread:

I don't anymore...I currently have the Apexi Intakes (Love the) but going to the Greddy Airinix becasue of a FMIC fitment issue. I like the BOV wooshing sounds you get after you upgrade the stock box...
