Does anyone know who made the brake rotors for the M2 performance Wilwood 13" brakes?

I purchased a front brake kit from M2 Performance a few years back before they went out of business. It consisted of a custom 13" rotor and a Wilwood SL6 Caliper. Now M2 is out of business and I need to know where they sourced the rotor so they can be replaced.

I tried Wilwood but it's not from them. I tried Precision Brake but they say they have no record of having sold anything to M2 Performance.

Anyone know?

maybe stoptech? SCC used a M2 Big Brake kit that was made by stoptech on their project FD

Just send one of the rotors to Coleman and tell them it's for extended road race use. If you're handy with a ruler you could just fax them a schematic.

They'll send you a back a nice heavy longer lasting set for about 3 or 400 or so.

Good luck

I don't know for sure, but you might try Coleman Racing Products:

http://www.colemanracing.com/catalog/index.php

Their website's not the best, but they make a huge range of rotors, if they
didn't make them for M2 they could do a copy. If the original rotors were
AP Racing or Brembo, the Colemans will be a few steps down, but they're
reasonably priced.

Best thing to do is call Coleman, and be able to either send them a rotor,
or make a *good* drawing of it for them to copy.

Heh - started this at 11pm, did some fact checking, and now I'm late!

Not that I recall or could find in the SCC articles. They did try some MMC rotors made by Cooltech (acquired by AEM), but they could not stand up to track use. Later they went with M2's AP Racing kit. No mention of StopTech kits.

See this link for the project car articles, and read the two articles that cover brakes to see how the MMC rotors fared:

fyi, Coleman is first class w re to rotors. most of nascar runs them FWIW. i can assure you anything you get from them is the real deal w no apologies necessary. they also make anything you want and are fairly priced.
rotors = coleman.

howard coleman.... no affiliation other than i ran the shxx out of their products during my real racing days.

2 piece rotors are standard items. You just need to know the overall diameter and thickness and double check the bolt circle where it mounts to the hat.

Hey John,

You find out where to source the rotors from? Maybe we can get a discount if we order 4 .

Well... I filled out a spec sheet for Coleman and I think they are going to make me some. I'll call them again on Monday and make sure they know I want four.

Ok, what I think I'll do is order two for myself for now. Once I receive them I'll make sure they fit right and then I'll post all the specifications so you can order them from Coleman. I figure it would be safer not to order a bunch right now in case my measurements were off and coleman sends me something that doesn't fit.

Coleman is shipping the rotors to me on Wednesday. They're being made now.

When I get them I'll test fit them and then post the specifications (I hope they fit!!!).

Total cost was $350.00 plus shipping for the pair.

Well, as often happens to the guinea pig I made a slight measurement error and the rotors do not fit. $350 plus shipping down the drain. On the plus side I now know the exact measurments I need. I had 13" stuck in my head so firmly for these rotors that the one dimension I didn't measure carefully enough was the overall diameter. The rotors actually need to be 12 7/8" and I just can't get the 13" rotors coleman sent to fit. They drag on the caliper and would probably drag badly once hot. It's beyond the adjustment ability of Mr. Handfile. I also forgot to tell Coleman that the mounting holes are threaded. This I unfortunately paid to have corrected at a machine shop before I realized the rotors would not fit.

So that none of you make my mistake I will now post the exact specification of the M2/ Wilwood 13" (actually 12 7/8") Big Brake Kit Rotors. The dimension as you will need to complete them on Coleman's brake rotor spec sheet are:

A - Thickness = 1 1/4"
B - Outside Diameter = 12 7/8"
C - Flange Diameter = 7"
D - Eye Diameter = 8 1/4"
E - Size of holes = THREADED 5/16 - 24 (5/16" Fine Thread)
F - Bolt Circle = 7 5/8"
G - Flange Thickness = 1/4"
H - Step Diameter = N/A Flat Face
I - Step Depth = N/A Flat Face

I have attached a scan of the correct Coleman Rotor Spec Sheet to this e-mail. You can print it out and fax it to Coleman - (906) 863-2665 ATTN: Troy - and they'll start your order.

Coleman Race Products (800) 221-1851

Please note that I have not yet received my corrected rotor order. I am very confident that they will fit but you might want to wait until I install them and confirm 100% next week before you order rotors. I'll post confirmation next week.

P.S. Anyone want some rotors that are perfect except that they're 1/8" too big? A machine shop might be able to grind them down? Going cheap! PM me.

Talked to Coleman today. The good news is that they're sending me a new set right away (in time for my next track event) AND they say I can just ship back the rotors that are 1/8" too big and they'll machine them down so they fit and ship them back to me.

So I'll have a backup set which is nice. Or someone can buy them... hint hint.

I was just going to say that. No need for a second set, just turn the ones you have down.

Ok, put the new rotors (12 7/8" diameter) on the car today and it works great. Perfect Fit. I'd say it's very safe to go ahead and order rotors for the M2/Wilwood front brake kit using the specifications I listed above. I did not want any slots on the rotors but the original rotors sent by M2 had slots so if that's important you make sure you request slots.

I'm off to the track this weekend for a time trial. Wish me luck... I'll report on how the brakes work if my car doesn't explode.

PS - WARNING! Coleman rotors may attract the Highway Patrol as I got a ticket for cruising at 80 down the freeway right after I put them on. I knew I should have sprung for the anti-cop rotor treatment.

How much did the final version wind up costing including shipping? I will likely order some soon. Thank you for your effort and posting this info here. I am having my set turned one final time and if they warp again I will run new ones.

BTW John if you would like to sell the first set, after they are turned down and verified to fit, I would certainly be willing to take those provided there is some discount involved

PM me if interested. Thanks again.

Just got back from a couple days at the track and the coleman rotors performed flawlessly.

RotaryResurrection:

I paid $159 each for the rotors plus and additional $16.15 for each rotor to have them "stress relieved"

1FunR1 who is also in San Diego has already said he probably wants my other set after I get them turned down 1/8". If he changes his mind you're next on the list.
