Question Does anyone have a loud Mazdaspeed exhaust?

I really need some info/help from anyone who owns a genuine Mazdaspeed exhaust. It's gotta be a loud one though...a stock sounding/quiet one won't help (unless it has a removable silencer)

Thanks!

Just FYI, everything I've ever heard about the Mazdaspeed exhausts were that they were VERY quiet, conservative systems. Not sure if there is a loud one.

No but cops in my state/county are out of control. I'm trying to get some data (decible level etc) and compare it to aftermarket exhausts. Our laws here don't state a set noise level; just that it can't be louder than OEM. So they give out tickets for ANY aftermarket exhaust, but let incredibly loud Mustangs and Harleys drive by, no prob. That's pure garbage.

If I can get a list together of aftermarket exhausts that are as loud or quieter than the loudest OEM-available exhaust, we're golden. But from what Dale's saying, things aren't looking good...

Technically, I can use something like an M2 or RB. But the point is, I'm trying to find a LOUD exhaust that would qualify as a) OEM, or b) OEM-like (see below).

§ 46.2-1049. Exhaust system in good working order.

No person shall drive and no owner of a motor vehicle shall permit or allow the operation of any vehicle on a highway unless it is equipped with an exhaust system of a type installed as standard factory equipment, or comparable to that designed for use on the particular vehicle as standard factory equipment, in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise. An exhaust system shall not be deemed to prevent excessive or unusual noise if it permits the escape of noise in excess of that permitted by the standard factory equipment exhaust system of private passenger motor vehicles or trucks of standard make.

The term "exhaust system," as used in this section, means all the parts of a motor vehicle through which the exhaust passes after leaving the engine block.

Chambered pipes are not an effective muffling device to prevent excessive or unusual noise.
********************************

Getting a quiet RB catback won't help...it's too quiet. I was hoping Mazdaspeed had a loud performance exhaust, which would be considered an OEM exhaust. That way, a bunch of loud exhaust would be legal, as long as they're not louder than the Mazdaspeed one...

In fact, according to the letter of the law, I can take ANY exhaust made by Mazda (it says "make," NOT "model.") But I don't think they make any loud exhausts, do they?

Ha, well you could always just get some mazda exhaust then cut the weld on the inlet into the muffler and knock a bit of the baffeling out...That should make it louder. You would just have to weld it up nicely.

Apexi n1 duals...they look somewhat stock and are yet one of the loudest out in the market. Just tell the cop they are mazdaspeed, the dual tips aren't that wide so i guess they can pass as stock.

Either or. If there are factory specs that state the decibles from a given distance, I'm straight. If not, I'll need to get the exhaust myself and test it.

RuffRyder, N1's don't look ANYTHING like stock. And the court would prob find 'em not comparable. You can't wing stuff like this...

No. Lemme explain what I'm trying to do.

I'm trying to find a loud exhaust that would qualify as OEM or similar to OEM. Based on how loud it is, I would be able to test and thus compile a list of many aftermarket exhausts that would be 100% legal, as long as they aren't louder than the original OEM or OEM-like exhaust.

Right now, cops don't care WHAT exhaust you have. If it isn't the factory one, they'll give you a ticket. I have a friend who got a ticket for an RB dual tip exhaust, which is practically an OEM exhaust lol. In short, things are outta control here, so I'm trying to beat the cops @ their own game. Again, I just need to find an exhaust that is loud, and would be considered OEM or comparable to OEM.

Would that be invalidated by a disclaimer stating it's for 'off-road use only'?

I think nearly every non-dealer installed part carries that disclaimer.

I don't think it matters, Dave. The law is pretty specific about sound. But on the same token, not all exhausts say off-road use only. Only a few select ones say that (like mine LOL)
