Cool Does anyone else have cryo treated parts on their FD?

Back when I was full time at Gotham we used a cryo facility in Dallas, and I made countless runs to that place with a truck full of parts.

The parts on my FD currently cryoed:

Slotted brembo brake rotors
all tranny synchros
Power Plant Frame
Lightweight Flywheel

I think that's it. All parts have about 9k miles on them, and I have yet to road race the car with the current setup, so the jury is still out. I had them all done for next to nothing, so I figured it couldnt hurt. Now I'm wondering if cryoing a spare set of stock rear axles wouldnt have been a bad idea.

Anyway, if any one else has any feedback or input, feel free to post away

It aligns the crystaline structure of the metal making it more homogenous and resistant to stress.

I'm also a little curious about this. I've been looking at these Powerslot rotors but wasn't convinced that a cryo-treatment is worth an additonal 30%.

I have heard nothing but good things about the cryo system...I would love to do some testing on some other parts as well...

The axles sound like a gread idea though... I dont see what it would hurt...

Theres a guy in my city that has cryo treated apex seals and housings. The guys at pinapple racing i guess gave a huge extension on their warrentees if you had the parts cryo treated. So it appears they have experience with it and its positive at least.

Only has 7000 miles on the motor but the motors still runs!

I like the idea of cryotreating. Sounds like it could really make a difference.... in longevity. and we all know that longevity is probably the least expected trait in an FD...

That's an awsome process... good read up too thanks for the link Mahjik.

People should just cryo their entire 7 so they don't overheat as easily =P

I've used several sets of cryo treated rotors with no difference in wear noted. IOW they crack just as fast as any non treated good iron rotor when road racing.

YMMV

Part of the problem with cryo is that unless you're a racer, it's hard to make meaningful statements about the increased fatigue life or wear resistance. Even on an FD, it's hard to go through enough hard parts to really show evidence of an improvement (or evidence of no change). And of course the racers don't share too many secrets.

I'd consider cryo'ing a few key parts like rotors, housings, brake rotors, and maybe tranny internals. The challenge is that seemlingly every automotive part is made of a slightly different material, and what works on one kind of brake rotor may have no practical improvement on another.

Kai, I live in the Midwest and I thought my winters were ugly. But you......I'd think your entire car would have been treated by now.

I thought you were the guy taking all the parts to be treated ? ? ? I would think the parts were more for racing pourposes than street use. Then again we all know how racing stuff finds it's way into street use.

I was. I have lost touch with all of those people, as you can see from my location I am not working at the shop anymore.

I read a paper on the treating of turbo chargers for tractor pull people ,high end .They found that the double and tripled staged setups were lasting an un real amount of run time compaired to untreated .
