Does anybody use a miata shifter in their FD ?

I just recently converted my auto to manual and I installed mazdatrick shortshifter, and i was surprised to see how high the shifter stuck up.And i asked my mechanic why this other guys shifter sat so low. It looked like the shifter was just the shift ****. And the mechanic said it was a miata shifter. I forgot to ask what year he used. Does anybody know what year is compatible! I guess it's not really a short shifter either, just looks like it. i kind of like it!

This was brought up a few years ago. Sounds like a good idea. Worked before. Try a search on the subject and link this thread

I searched and only found info on a miata shifter **** on a FD. Nothing on a miata shifter in a FD!

Cut the spindle an inch, rethread it (10X 25?) and throw on a Voodoo spherical shifter ****. Replace the bushings in the bottom and you'll swear you're driving a new car. Synthetic fluid in the box helps also.
