Yep, it's actually the most comfortable road trip car we own, and the other two cars are a 99 Jeep GC Limited and an 07 Audi A4. The comfort thing is mostly due to the seats, the FD has the best seats out of the three.

I normally check the fluids before I leave and I always have an extra quart of oil in the storage bin. I should also mention that I follow the maintenance schedule religiously and have AAA Plus membership.

Don't drive thru Arkansas. The interstate sucks bad. Drove mine from Texas to Ohio and my teeth were almost loose after Arkansas. I guess Clinton didn't give a ****. Besides that it was great. By the way, Ohio roads aren't much better.

I remember driving cross country in 91 before anyone had heard of Clinton, and you are absolutely right. Arkansas was the only state I didn't like. The roads were crappy and some of the other drivers were as well. I'm sure there are nice people and places there, but of all the states I've been through that's the only one I've actually disliked.

Dont take mine on road trips much, although the UK is slightly smaller than the US lol.

When the petrol is $2.18 a litre going long distance in an FD is not a cheap affair !!! Oh the joys of living in the UK !!!

I drove across the country twice. Just check your tires and pressures, cnahge your oil and filter, check the plugs and youll be fine.

I made one with mine, and had no issues at all. Def. agree about the comments about comfortable seats. I thought Mazda had molded the seat just for me; i fit in them perfectly.

I got pretty decent gas mileage as well, using cruise control.

I averaged 28mpg early on when I was cruise controlling at 70MPH with the A/C off. Later when we picked it up to 75 and I ran the A/C (it was hot in Utah!) it dropped to 26MPH. I gotta to say I am really stunned at this kind of mileage.
So am I. Our "record" fuel mileage for our almost-stock '94 is 23.15 mpg going from Orange County, CA to San Jose... 382 miles. Please share your technique!

The most I've driven was about 2 hours (roughly 150 miles) I'd rather drive long distances than short city trips! You get mad calf cramps because of stop and traffic!

I loved taking mine on road trips. I always drove mine from Dallas, Texas to Little Rock, Arkansas to visit my brother. They always enjoyed seeing me roll up in it, too.

My FD got very decent gas mileage when just highway cruising. No complaints.

No special technique. Recent (less than 4000 miles) rebuild so all the filters and ignition are new. Checked the tires pressures before setting off. I just used the cruise control nearly the whole way.

Like a said, I've NEVER got above 16MPG driving it as a DD around Seatlle and I've owned the car since new.

I'll post my fuel reciepts once i find what box my scanner is packed in.

When I bought the FD last December, my son and I drove her from Missouri to Washington State. Weather made us take the long way. 3000 miles in about 3 days. It was great and I'd do it again in a minute. Of course, I'm less ignorant now than I was then, so I'd be a little more careful, but just give her a fresh oil change and make sure coolant is good.

FWIW, it was on stock touring suspension.

When I picked mine up 5 years ago, I flew down to Reno and drove it back to Seattle. Car had 18,000 miles on it and was a blast driving back through the desert, the mountains and when I reached Seattle rain. Since then, Ive done quite a few 300 mile trips, all with no problems. Actually, the only problem Ive had to deal with is all the bugs that get splattered all over the front bumper and windshield since I like to keep it clean and shiny.

I've been back and forth from San Bernardino to LA to San Diego many times, brought my surfboards/beach stuff, went all over town, daily driving to work, etc. I've put about 10,000 miles on my car in the last two years with this sort of driving. Been to the drag strip, road course, drove home without incident.

No worries at all. Just make sure to check the same things you would on a "normal" car like fluids, lug torque, battery charge/proper alternator charging, functioning locks, tire pressure, etc. When you pop your hood make sure you don't see any cracked hoses (like the one that goes to your wastegate!). I'm very careful to check out the car before I even start it, look all around to make sure your tires are inflated, there's no puddles of fluid underneath the car, etc.

I guess the only REAL problem is "luggage space". I didn't know FDs had that
