do i need to upgrade my ecu??????

i have a down pipe and cat back on my rx-7. they came with the car when i bought it. planning to add a boost gauge and a/f meter this week. my question is this. i bought an intake and want to install it. should i get a upgraded ecu now ( if so is the apexi power fc with commander a good choice????) or will i be okay with the intake, dp and catback on the stock ecu. will the car run too lean????
what should i upgrade next????? fmic ??? after i purchase an ecu. please help. thanks kevin

It would be ok with dp, cb and intake.. right now i have the same setup as u with dp and cb.. usually the rule of thumb is about 3 mods and then an ecu upgrade.. but to be on the safe side i'm doing ecu and then intake.. just in case.. but yes, the power fc would be a great choice.. that's what i'm saving up for right now..

I ran a similar setup at 10 psi for over a year with no problems. I would think you'll be ok, but each car is a little different. The prudent thing would be to pony up the cash for a power fc--I love mine; the unit is very versatile and worth every penny. As a matter of fact (and not everyone will agree with this) but don't buy the boost and a/f gauge. Put the money towards a pfc and commander, b/c they can do both of those (measure boost and a/f), and *more accurately* than the gauges b/c the pfc measures from the source--the stock sensors. No vacuum lines to add error to the readings.

After that, IC is a good choice. I'm running a huge stock mount (see pics in sig) b/c I like my motor temps cool

Goodfella is right, you can probably have those mods and run fine on the stock ECU, but you might as well just go for the pfc, you will see a very large power increase and your car will be safer. As far as the A/F, I agree with goodfella. Get a PFC and it will display numbers that tell you the same thing. The only way the A/F gague will help you is by letting you know if you are running a little to lean so you can fix it. But without a PFC all you can do is sit there and watch your car run lean.
