Talking Do I need all the intake hoses when upgrading new intakes?

Hello,

Do I need to connect all the intake hoses from the stock intake onto the HKS intakes? Can I just use the 2 ribbed ones and the other three hoses just disconnect them and plug them up?

If I can I want to do that, but if I need some of them I need to know.

Please help! thanks!

You shouldn't plug them or leave them unfiltered. One of those goes to the airpump, which will get damaged if you let it suck hot/unfiltered air. Go an auto store and get a few crankcase K&N filters. They should plug on the ends of the hoses so you get filtered air.

Hmmm. I have just noticed some engine pics have stock twins but with different intakes and seemed they hooked it up with just the 2 main hoses, but I cannot see the others.

You can run with just the two intake rubber pipes. Disable the smog pump and acv. The blow off valve hose and CRV (i think that's what its called) you can leave hanging.

I have an aftermarket BOV. Only 3 rubber pipes on mine. 2 intake hoses, and 1 CRV hose.

Afterburner.

I already took out my bov pipes and plugged the hole.

So, I can do the same thing for the other 2 thin intake pipes and just hook my intake with the 2 big ribbed pipes?

One close to the bov pipe seems to run to some gadget that is connected to the pipe. then you got a big ribbed one and then another thin pipe that seems to go all the way to the back of the plenum, then the other big ribbed pipe and last is the water pump pipe.

I would like to made sure i can disconnect the other 2 hoses and just have the 2 ribbed hoses connected to the intake.

Do you have pics of your engine for a better description?

Check this site:

http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/h...ine_other.html

They have some info on installing the Pettit intake which should help.

I have the HKS Intake installed, but I didn't do the installation so I won't be of any help.

Mahjik: Hey, do you have any engine pics with the HKS intake installed?

If so can I see one, I am trying to see if I set it up right.

Are you using the adapters that came with the kit or they installed it with just the 2 intakes hooked to your 2 main pipes?

I don't have any pics now, but I could possibly get some tomorrow using my parents digital cam.

I know that the shop that installed it used some different piping for in the intake (some larger pipes I believe), but yes they just used the two intakes pipes. They left a third hose connected, but plugged with a filter on the end.

Really...

So there are 5 pipes that were connected to the stock intake box (not counting the BOV pipe).

the 2 big ribbed ones and the 2 thin ones, which each thin one was next to the ribbed one and the water pump hose which is next to the radiator cap.

So of course your HKS intake is connected to the 2 main hoses. So they disconnected one thin hose and the other thin hose is connected to another filter? What about your water pump hose?

I wish I could just disconnect all the hoses except the 2 main ones, seem easier to me.

It's important to figure out what the rubber hoses connect to first. The shop manual isn't too great at identifying them. Ok, of the top of my head:

1. short large ribbed intake hose primary turbo
2. long large ribbed intake hose to secondary turbo
3. hose to the CRV, which goes to the y-pipe
3. hose to the BOV, which goes to the y-pipe
4. hose to the smog pump, from there to the hard pipe on the manifold
5. hose to the hard pipe on the manifold which leads to the ACV

If you plan on disabling the emission doohickeys, acv and smog pump you can get rid # 4 and 5 hoses. Plug where they used to connect to on the intake and the two hard pipes on the manifold.

If you plan to keep the emissions stuff, you have to run them to the intake.

You let your BOV hose dangle off the intake, and plug up the pipe on the intake. You can also do the same for the CRV, but I kept mine connected to the intake.

Is the CRV hose the small hose next to the radiator cap?

I have plugged the BOV hose, so I am cool with that. How would you disable the smog pump and ACV emissions?

If you dont and I disconnect them anyway what happens?

Ok, here's a little disclaimer: If you listen to me and something breaks in your car it ain't my fault. Don't follow everything people say on the net. Do some research and gather some facts to help you avoid self destruction. Also, what works for others might not work for you.

Now, let's get somethings straight. Look at this diagram:
http://robrobinette.com/cgi-bin/i/im...simplified.jpg

That's how my set up looks like.

Look at these following links to help you on your way to rotor awareness:
http://www.maxcooper.com/rx7/links/how-to.htm

Here's my attempt at diagraming intake hoses:

Note: The diagram is off the top of my head, ACV and smog pump might be in the wrong position. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

i have a quick question.

using the numbers in the diagram provided below,

https://www.rx7club.com/vforums/atta...&postid=278796

i had disconneted 3, 4 from the intakebox (and plugged the holes)since i had aftermarket BOV (installed after intercooler) and the blowing off sound got much loudder.

i was wondering if this setup causes any problems like emission failure, less boost, or building up boost slowly.

thanks for any input.

Afterburner and RX7-luvr: I have also disconnected the #4 (bov pipe and plugged it, because I have the greddy elbow and flange for a bov.

There is no connection on my intake for the hose to the air/smog pump, so far I have left it open without a hose. Does it need to be connected?

Now for #3 and #6 pipes I am curious if you can disconnect those?
