Do I have to Get An ECU now?

Ok, I know the rule about the 2 or 3 mod = upgrade the ecu but if I run an intake, dp, and catback but use a boost control to keep the boost at factory level could I still run lean or blow the motor or would it last until I can afford the ecu?

You still are running leaner due to better engine breathing. Using boost with better breathing just leans it out more. Are you getting any boost spikes to 11-12 on primary, especially in cold weather?

Most people wouldn't want to gamble with the thought of blowing a motor (when you can possible avoid it.) I've got an APEXi intake and Racing Beat Catback, but I won't put on my downpipe until I get some form of EMS on there. The gains don't outweigh the risks in my opinion..

You should get a ecu just to be safe but it also depends on the type of intake you have. Cold air style intake can cause boost spikes and a boost controler might help it. An Apexi style intake can suck hot air and put you even closer to detenation.

Actually, your car will be fine. However, your next mod should definitely be to upgrade the ECU. Make sure to keep the boost down and watch out for boost creep.

Put aside the ECU upgrade..... Do you guys think a vented hood would help the Apexi style intake breath in more cool air?
