That's correct, it won't work.

There was no keyless entry option on U.S. FDs, and there is no actuator in the driver's door. On the other hand, Japanese FDs had this option available and you can get the actuator and electronics from JT Imports or Rotary Xecret7, I believe. Cost is around $450-500, IIRC.

The JDM FD's definitely came with keyless entry, because I have one with it.

There is a small, black box attached to the driver's door just behind the wing mirror. The remote for it is a slimline aluminium tube, with a black button on top. Sexy.

When the JDM FD was still in production mazda listed it on their webpage as a dealer installed option.
That system had/has a key with the controller built in. I was disappointed to discover the RX8 has a seperate fob for the alarm. In this day and age every car should come with keyless Therefore every keyless system should be built into the key.

I don't the option came as a stock option, however, my fd has it. Along with an an automatic starter. Very handy in the winter time. Then again, I haven't used my keyless entry in 4 months. The car hasn't been able to move in 4 months. The motor crapped out on me.

What they appear to be selling is a replacement fob only. They are not selling the Keyless system.

The site says their fobs will only work "IF" you already have the keyless system installed. My reading of this is... If you have a dealer installed system and have lost/damaged your fob, then this $44 unit is for you.
