Do boost leaks overwork turbos?

Just a thought:

when boost is leaking from an IC pipe or what-ever-- are the turbos being worked to their max trying to reach 10 psi?

I mean, say you're only hitting 5psi, would the ECU keep the WG/Precontrol shut in a futile attempt to make the 10psi mark?

orrr is it more like, the ECU is controlling the WG some other way and whatever PSI you hit is the amount of work the turbo is actually doing (seems false).

I have been readily overboosting 12+psi at WOT with downpipe and catback only.

I also discovered a small crack in my stock IC pipe that I attribute to the occasional max 7psi on secondary in 3rd gear only. But since I am still hitting 10 and higher PSI usually, does that mean my turbos are working harder than they should be? of course I will fix asap, but just wondering!

thanks!

Yes.

Because the wastegates won't open due to not seeing enough boost. So all of the exhaust will be going throigh the turbo. This can over rev the turbo.
