DIY: Nardi Wheel & Hub install retaining clockspring and horn
This was the 1st time I have ever installed a steering wheel in any car. I did a lot of searching but found there to be some missing info. There is a lot of info on removing the wheel and airbag, but not much in the way of how to install the Nardi Hub while retaining the horn and stock clockspring. I figured out a method, and it seems to work well (if someone sees an issue that I have overlooked please tell me).

So, you have removed the airbag and steering stock wheel. Now you are looking at something like this, except you will have a harness still attached to these 4 wires you see hanging out of the clockspring. (The yellow thing is called a clockspring, it contains a ribbon of wires that allows the steering wheel to turn without damaging any wires)
Cut the wiring harness clip off of the wires, but do so very close to the clip and not close to the clockspring (I cut mine to close to the clockspring) and ended up needing to add a piece of wire to lengthen the black horn (ground) wire.
The black wire and the green wire are the horn wires, when they touch the circuit is completed and the horn sounds. The other wires are not needed with an after market horn.

Add a connector to the stripped end of the ground black wire like so, and then splice the horn connector to the green/red line wire.

Screw the connector to the hub adapter like in the pic:

Loop the horn wire through the proper hole in the hub (beforehand you need to cut and tape off the other unneeded wires).

After that, you need to center the clockspring and center the hub on the bolt splines and finger tighten the 21mm nut and then torque it down. Then install the wheel and horn button.
Pics of the hub and button for reference:

back end .... This used to have a brass/plastic piece screwed into the back end (it was a connection plate to the horn button). I had to remove this piece because it interfered with the clock spring.

If you get the Daikei hub, there is NO cutting, hacking, anything involved. It's totally plug and play. Even comes with resistors that plug into the airbag wiring to eliminate the airbag light.

Nice write-up sip. I am actually looking to purchase a Nardi steering wheel in the near future, and your write-up will be helpful in the process. Thank you for your contribution to the community.

I believe Daikei is getting phased out. Every place that I've seen who used to carry Daikei now only carries Works Bell. Luckily, they are basically the same thing.
