I'm with you - if you have the skill, the tools and the time - I say make it. I did. I have a small garage/weld/fab shop and made my own diff brace and tranny brace. Turned out better than what I've seen guys buy and end up bending around and notching to make fit. I enjoyed it too. Really I just like tinkering with my cars myself and making things for them. My only suggestion is go with 1/4" plate instead of 1/2" - the 1/2 is too heavy and overkill. Use cardboard first to make your patterns, from there cut out the plate, turn on the Millermatic and run the beads. Test fit, Beadblast, primer and paint.

Forget the brace if your original diff-mount bushings are also worn. By the solid diff mounts instead. I think RX7.com sells them. I bought the Jimlab versions and the rear end is every solid and stable. Cost you about $110.00. You will hear slightly more noise from the rear but it's not enough to annoy you. Also these mounts avoid any potential installation issues with custom exhaust in your future. Oh yea these are much lighter than any brace you could ever fab up to do the same job.
