Cool stock fog light bulb replacement...

so im down to one fog light now (and it puts out NOTHING in the way of light) so its time for some re-lamping.

i understand they take an h3 bulb correct? stock wattage should be 55w... but i saw some 85w piaa's that looked intriguing. so two questions:

1) if i step up to the 85w h3 do i need to rewire the entire fog light section of my wiring harness? or can i run an extra 30w of power off of that circuit without melting the wire OR popping my fuse??

2) will throwing more wattage out of the stock lights do anything for visibility? the optics in those lights seem to be garbage, and the cuttoffs are very very low. im not even sure if you can aim them at all. they look like theyre just for show.... someone tell me otherwise

85w might be close to max for the wires. I tried 100w once because they were cheap and I wanted to try to get the most out the lights. The wiring heated right up but, alarmingly, the fuse held. Even with the 100w bulbs, the output wasn't anything to brag about. I went back to IIRC, a 75w. So far, it's been OK, and I'm running them as DRLs.

I beleive the oem bulbs are 35w. you can buy some stuff to clean and clear the lenses. PIAA doesn't make 85w bulbs, they are 55w (85w equivilant output). I have used the amber and they made the car easy to see but not the road. Nokya artic white works well.

^^^^^^ he's right on the original wattage. 55watts would be an up grade and at 55w you can still smoke the harness if the connections are dirty or weak.

piaa does make an 85w bulb.... 85w (135w equivalant) -> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PIAA-...spagenameZWD1V

however.... i didnt realize the stock ones were 35w. thats changes things significantly. now im not sure what to go with. and if i cant aim (which still has yet to be confimed) then i guess all of this talk of higher wattage bulbs is in vain.

It's really kid of a waste of time to increase the brightness of "fog lamps" as they don't really provide any greater distance visability. If that's what your looking to achieve then I'd suggest going with a decent driving lamp.
