Hey guys,
If I disconnect the electrical connector going to the EGR valve and don't put a resistor in it, what happens? I haven't gotten a check engine light but are timing/fuel maps affected at all by this?

i didn't and i havnt seen any problems

 

If its a 93 FD no code will show. If its a 94+FD it will read a check engine code.

 

Street King, I have a 93 (Cal ECU), and I get the EGR code when I disconnect the electrical connector.

Marshall, it shouldn't cause any problems with your timing or fuel. The EGR is only active in 5th gear at cruise, so disconnecting it makes no difference to the important parts of your maps (WOT).

 

OMM my bad forgot to add that part. I was talking about non-cali. If its a cali ECU, it will throw a code no matter what year. EGR valve I heard is only active between a certain rpm. Like from 2850rpm-3215rpm...... something along those lines in any gear.

 

I didnt know that. I should get mine plugged but I need to use a relay to trick the ECU. But Iam totaly lost when it comes to electrocincs. My ECU throws EGR codes every now and then.

 

what voltage range does the egr work with on the 93 rx7?

reason why i ask is because on my mustang the egr works between 0-5 volts. this is perfect for logging the diy-wb. i'm sure you get the idea.

Check this out for the EGR fix

 

What I did for my Cali car was to just install an EGR block off plate in between the EGR and the manifold. That way the ECU still thinks the EGR is there (because it is) but the passage way is still blocked off. Plus, if I ever got a visual smog inspection by someone who REALLY knows what they are doing, they'll still see the EGR right where it is supposed to be. They'd have to actually remove the damn thing to know it was actually blocked off.
