Disabling car for storage
Disabling car for storage
I have heard that there is something you pull, either out of the fuse box, or somewhere else that will disable the car completely, meaning, it won't even try to start. Reason being, I have an RX7 back home (95 only 63k miles), I am overseas at the moment, and my wife nor I trust my roomate when it comes to taking the car for a joy ride (in other words I don't want him driving it). My wife has another car, so not driving it isn't a problem. What I would like to know is, is there a way to disable the car with removing a part that is hard to come by, yet easy to remove/reinstall. I want my wife to be able to take it out every month or so to keep it from sitting too long, but I don't want it to be an easy part like a fuse that my roomate can go to the autoparts store and buy... I would really appreciate the help. Thanks
well you can remove the EGI relay in the engine bay, this will totally disable to car.
Your room mate might work that out though...its covered up so its not exactly obvious. Best bet is probably to install a manual switch in the cockpit somewhere hidden that switches off the live feed to the car.

The key is what you're describing. Without it, it's quite difficult to take the car for a spin, yet it's something that your wife can keep hidden herself and have access to the car. She wont even have to raise the hood! Or perhaps I have an overly simplistic view of life?
Good one RotaryResurrection! The key would definitely be it, unless he thinks that the key might have already been compromised that is...(The roomate could've gotten his hands on it and made a duplicate). But seriously guitaraholic2004-
The more important question here is: Why do you have a roomate if you're married? If you don't mind me asking.
I'm overseas at the moment too, serving in the Air Force. I can kinda relate-

EXACTLY!
a) why do you have a roommate when married?
b) why do you have a roommate you can't trust to not go joyriding in your car, to the extent of him/her going to the auto parts store for a fuse?
The key thing cracked me up, too...

i would take out the sparkplugs (assuming you have crappy ones in there, or you can use old ones, im sure you have a box full as most of us do) and file the tip down or just fill it up with somekinda epoxy resin/epoxy putty and then reinsert them.
