Unhappy Digital OEM Mileage Counter not working!! PLEASE HELP!!!!

My mileage counter stopped working for no reason at all. One day it was working great and the other it doesn't want to turn on. All the gauges are working 110% great and the lighting in the back ground is also working great. The only thing that is not working is the numbers that tell you how many miles the car has. The little box illuminates but no numbers show. Please tell me what to do!! Am I the only that this has happend to? Is my car special for having this? Most inportant, is this going to cost me alot? (I already know the last answer so need the other answers)(LOL).

PS

Please don't pm me. If you can post that would be easier.

Thanks,
Gustavo

Does the speedometer work okay? If so, there is nothing in the factory service manual that mentions the odometer separately.

You haven't by chance "fiddled" with the odometer, have you? I am not sure about Mazda but some manufacturers build some safeguards into their odometers to where if you attempt to mess with them they crash......

No, I changed the guage faces ones and then put the stock ones back on but everything was working great. It all happend one day, I got home from work and saw that I needed to change the oil because I was almost at the 3,000 miles. I got up the next morning and got in the car and the next thing I know it doesn't work. I turn the car off and then on but nothing. Everything but I mean everything works except for the digital mileage counter.

Can someone please tell me what to do?

Thanks,
Gustavo

Man....I don't know. There is NOTHING in the service manual about this. Maybe it is as simple as an electrical or signal connecter has vibrated off?

Same deal with my '94. Turned my car on one day and screen is showing color but no numbers??? (Speedo working fine). Spoke to Cam at Pettit Racing and he has only seen it a few times. From my understanding of our conversation, he claims the chip burned out. Only way to fix it is to buy a new speedo and odometer board all in one. Anyone else heard this?

I hav never seen it, but it does sound like a chip failure - I havve a spare Speedo/odo I might be able sell You _ I just have to make sure it works first though as I got it used and have never hooked it up.

As for me, I am going to wait and start at zero with a brand new odometer when I need a rebuild. (pretty cool to have zero miles on odometer with fresh motor, considering I was never able to buy my 7 new So for now I guestamate miles driven and change my oil every 2 months. It's not my daily driver.

hey maxpesce how much are you willing to sell yours for? How much does a new one cost because having zero miles would kick ***.

no it is a Back-light Reverse LCD display - ie charecter segments are turned OFF (made clear) to be made visible as opposed to turning the segments On (made dark), and the background is dark (as opposed to clear in a conventional LCD Display) so the segments appear lighted on a dark background.

Maybe you could take the chip to an electronics engineer. They may be able to see what part of the chip isn't working and repair it.
