Difficulty of rebuild?
So I'm still looking for that perfect FD (in my price range), but lately I've been thinking. Originally I wanted to buy one already rebuilt, just because I didn't want to fool with worrying about it blowing. But I can get a high-mileage stock fd for a lot less than a rebuilt. With the extra money I'd save, I could buy the replacement and have a brand new engine versus one with 30k+ already on it.
So my question is, how difficult is the whole rebuild (maybe a 1-10 rating)? If I worked alone, say 5+ hours a day or more, how long would it take? I could take it to somebody to do it for me obviosuly, but if it's not that hard I'll do it myself and use the saved labor money on reliability mods or something.
Thanks for input

Considering a professionally rebuilt engine is only $2500-$3500, $500 shipping, and a further $1000 to have it installed, I'd say rebuilding yourself is rather pointless, unless you enjoy that sort of thing. It isn't very hard. You need a few "special tools", but the basic engine is very simple (compared to an overhead cam(s) piston engine). Many have done their own. Some even lasted.
You want help removing it and reinstalling it - it can be "entertaining" aligning the engine with the transmission in the chassis or inserting the engine/transmission into the chassis.
