Difficult to start first time when cold after Turbo and fuel system upgrade

Hi Guys,

I am having trouble starting my car for the first time when its cold. I usually take my car out once in 15-20 days... It started after the Single Turbo upgrade where the air pump has been removed and the fuel system upgraded. I have upgraded to ASPEC GT3574R turbo kit and ASPEC 450R fuel system. I have a feeling it is because of the larger 1600cc secondary injectors that first starting the car is difficult and it backfires and then starts and I have to keep my foot on the accelerator to keep the revs at around 2500rpms for 30-40 seconds and when the car warms up just a little engine temps on power fc go above 40c I can let go of the accelerator and the car idles fine.

When I let the car idle for the turbo timer before I shut it off I can see that the air/fuel ratio is 11.2 is that too rich at idle and causing some flooding?

What is a solution to this. Your help will be greatly appreciated

You need to work on the coolant temp correction map on the PowerFC. Also, it's possible you could have an injector that's leaking overnight - fuel is dripping into the engine making it hard to start.

Aren't turbo timers usually frowned upon? I know many will rev to 3k and cut the engine, this was common on the rx8 not sure so much on the fd as they are less prone to flood.

Thanks I will check if its a leaking injector... could be it....

What do i do to the coolant temp correction map... it is still stock as it came with the base power fc map... no tuners here so I have tuned the ignition timing and fueling myself and knocks are in check as well as the air/fuel ratio... but never touched the coolant temp correction....

On a side note my car is running super cool the max temps i see are 81c and we get 40c weather normal here....

The PFC stock has a pretty rich coolant map, at least on US cars. My car used to be stuttery and weird cold. You can richen or lean the mixture for various temps, it's pretty easy to use.

Try reducing the values (leaner) or increasing (richer) and see what that gets you. Really easy to do and you can do it with the commander.

On the turbo timer comment, they don't cause any problems on an FD as far as the engine running. Period. They're not really necessary, unless you have an oil cooled single turbo, then it might be a good idea.

Its not that they are "frowned upon" its that they are useless on any oil and water cooled turbo as you can easily just "drive Ms. Daisy" the last mile or two within your destination and your turbo(s) will be cooled down enough.

turbos that are only oil cooled need some cool down time as oil retains more heat than water.

Most people dont use a turbo timer as you can simply idle the car for 2 minutes on your own while you do other things like check you phone for email or text a few people.

For people who are more cognizant, its a waste of money that could be used for other meaningful parts

How I can check if the injector is leaking overnight and why does it leak... does it mean its a faulty injector or some issue with the o rings.
