Hey, just blew mine last night and have a t2 diff in my parts car i am thinking about swaping. Wondering if the pinion and the ring gear are the same from t2 to FD? What parts did you have to purcahse and where did you pick them up? And did you just use the the shims you already had from t2 the fd and what did you start with? Think the ring gear is gone in mine so it would be great if i can swap everything from my parts car

Yea money is kinda tight(4.3 would be nice) and trying to get it back up and running before imports vs domestics. Think i will get the other parts though. Ran a 11.1@126 last night on et streets and no two step and broke my second pass. Yea think Ray knows who i am by now lol.

Thanks, and no nothing. Those ET street bias ply are sooo nice. Normally i wheel hop and crap on street tires and on these i hook and glide down the track. I did spin a little off the line but its better than dead hooking. I got them used for real cheap since i just wanted to try them. My diff had like 140k so i knew it was on its way out.

. ThanksI took the t2 differential apart and cleaned it out and checked the specs on the friction disks, washers, springs. I thought about shimming it up for a harder lockup but decided not to. Be aware that the FSM for the t2 is not accurate on the correct specs for the disks. The correct specs are listed earlier in this thread.
I don't think the shims for the t2 will work either. I used the ones from my FD and got lucky and only had to swap them left to right to get the correct backlash. It was actually a bit tighter then FSM suggests but this allowed for the bearings and everything to wear in. Using a good synthetic oil also allows helps. You might have to purchase new shims to make sure you get the correct backlash, chances of the FD shims working is slim. I moved the ring gear over from the FD to the T2 LSD, but left the pinion gear alone.

Just tore it apart and it was the diff that blew. Stripped all the spider gears. Kinda weird since it also poped out my driver side axle too. But the ring and pinion gears do look ok so i will get the other diff out of my t2 and pull it apart to make sure the disks are ok since it has some miles on it and swap the gear. Hopefully ill get lucky too on the shims, but i am gona get new carrier bearings ect so ill get some prices from Ray.

You're going to have to clean the case out really well. Thats exactly what happened to my spider gears, my axle never popped out though.
You've probably already flipped the case so that the pinion is on the bottom. If not don't, pull the cover off and flip it so the pinion is on top. Try to get all the spider teeth out. If you already flipped it over then all those teeth have found their way to little hiding spots through out the case and around the pinion.
Pull the differential out of the case and take an air hose in there with a long extension with a bend on it so you can spray all the little teeth out. It took awhile to get it all out of mine, they were all around the pinion gear and kinda binding it up slightly. Tap on the case and keep cleaning even when you think you've got it all. I thought I was done on several occasions and I would flip it another way or blow a certain direction and another tooth would make its way out.
