Didn't hear a BUZZ sound at rev limit!

Just like the title says, I took it to 7.5k rpm and no buzz. Took it to 8k got a big drop in power so I am guessing I hit fuel cut with no BUZZ sound that I hear you get when you hit a certain RPM. Whats the deal? Iam not going to 8k again and hitting fuel cut so is there any way I can check it to see if it works at all?

Don't know why you are not getting a warning buzzer but just going to 8k rpm does NOT give you fuel-cut. The rev limiter is at 8300 rpm and retards the ignition. Fuel cut occurs when the boost exceeds the factory set maximum. This should not occur with a stock car (although I have heard of people getting it with a stocker). If you are generating enough boost to actually hit fuel cut, then you need a reprogrammed or stand-alone ecu.

As far as the power drop at 8k, for one, a stock engine's output is falling quickly at that rpm, secondly, the ignition retard would definitely kill all your power. After 1st gear, there's no point in redlining it anyway as you will accelerate faster shifting at 7500 rpm or slightly earlier.

Exactly right about after first gear. I guess then it wasnt fuel cut but more like the timing issue you brought up. Iam not stock nor heavily modded. I have perfect boost pattern except for the cold night which this one wasnt.

actually, i was under the impression that pre 1994 fds did not have a fuel cut, but they had a beep. and 1994 and onwards, the fds started to come with a fuel cut but no beep.

Not true at all. All FDs have a warning buzzer at about 7.5k rpms. All FDs have fuel cut. I know 94 and 95 have ignition retard at 8300 rpm, maybe 93s don't, but I would be surprised if they didn't.

Did you try this in first or second gear? Unfortunately, in the lower two gears the motor turns too fast for the tach to keep up and you probably won't hear the warning buzzer before you hit the rev limiter. I don't recommend doing this too often, but if you're determined to hear it, try it in third gear instead.

rynberg: i know for a fact that the 93s dont have something that the ones after 93 have. it can be the ignition retardation, or a built in rev limiter. i know there is something, cuz i was reading once about what 1994 has that 1993 doesnt and i read it and went "oh man!!!!" in frustration/disappointment (i own a 93 R1).

y do you want to hear it? Running it up past redline does no good because your hp levels start to drop a little after about 6.5k on stock twins.

Because if I don't here it then there is something wrong I need to fix. And you never know when you get carried away in a race an accidentlly over rev it.

You know, come to think about it, I haven't heard mine since I hooked up my Pettit ECU (back in October).

My car hasn't been driving that much since we actually have winter here so I don't know if I knocked something loose or if it's still there and I just never take notice to it. I'm thinking more of the first..

I've never heard mine either come to think about it. I'll try the 3rd gear test sometime this week. My only guess is if the previous owner dissengaged it somehow. Does anybody know if you can actually dissengage the beep?
