Did she blow or not?

Here's the scoop, I was just coming home a little bit ago and had a nice stretch in front of me so I opened my baby up in 5th gear. At about 140 at 13 pounds, it cut out kinda like fuel cut. I lifted me foot off the pedal and now it doesn't idle right, sounds like it's missing. I was just wondering if i didn't maybe blow an apex seal. My mods are a PFC, mp, dp, apex cat-back, and the don't be a rikki non-seq conversion. My turbos only have like 3,000 miles on them and I'm not too sure about the motor. Thanks for any info.

well to tell ya the truth, that's what it feels like, but i checked the hose and it's attached to the sensor, i'm not sure if it's attached at the manifold tho cuz it was dark when i was lookin at it. and it's not building boost very good either and feels like a total turd when accelerating. i barely made it up my driveway

Well, you know the next words... compression check. 'Till then, it's only guesswork...

good luck. Hope it's a simple thing. Waiting for the death rattle on my car. I'm sure it'll be that one time I push it while it's dark and I don't look at the boost gauge fast enough.

if your map sensor is connected then definetly get a compression test. Good luck.

I have an update. I just went out to inspect everything in the light. The car started fine as usual, had a slight miss sound to it. It's still pulling good vacuum, but seems absolutely powerless. I got into the light and noticed a lot of oil buildup towards the top of the second rotor housing. I pulled the leading plug of that housing and it has a lot of carbon buildup on it. I just replaced these about 3 months ago, but I drive a lot. I took the intake elbow off and it had what looked like fresh oil sitting in it. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

definitely sounds like a blown motor to me...what is "good vacuum"? mine still pulled 12 with a blown seal, and it boosted great, too

it's still pulling 14 to 16 at an idle. i haven't tried boostin it after the incident, but it feels like it's only runnin on one rotor or one spark plug, just totally powerless. it doesn't smoke or anything. hopefully i can get that compression test done sometime this week and find out if that's the culprit

that is pretty good vacuum, maybe you are ok....does it shudder (vibrate) at idle? that seems to be a tell tale sign

yeah, it shudders pretty bad, kinda feels like it's got an agressive cam, but the motor doesn't sound much different. it just has no power and vibrates like a bitch at idle. i'm thinkin i may have just chipped a seal and not actually broke it good. at least my turbos might be salvagable, i hope.

exactly what happened to me, dude....chipped seal, not a major detonation

car still ran pretty strong and boosted well, I could just tell she was sick

Dam Spoolin...thats what mine sounds like...but my car still pulls...with the exception of a slipping clutch...I'm goin to change all of the spark plugs...and pray that its only that. My engine does vibrate like crazy...

well i really don't think it's the turbos. they're brand new rebuilds from blue ribbon. i've only got maybe 3,000 miles on them. they've never given a hint of trouble and it was pulling hard until it cut out on me. i'm really startin to think it could be my ignition cuz of the good vacuum, but it could be a very minor seal chip. i'm gonna get some equipment from a friend and do a compression test this week sometime so i don't have to take it anywhere. hopefully i'll figure it out, right now it's too cold to go work on it! poor baby! lol thanks for the input guys

If it cut out like the fuel cut I would'nt think it was something like a minor "chipped" apex seal. Just a thought. Good luck, but don't jump to conclusions.easier said than done.

well after doin some talking to some knowledgable friends areound here, they think i might have killed a spark plug. i already checked the rear housing's plugs and they didn't look the best, so i think i'm just gonna replace them and see if it runs better. i might at least be able to get it to a shop to get a compression test since noone will lend me the tools

okay got an update for everybody. i changed the plugs hopin for a lucky fix, no go. i got my hands on a snap-on compression tester tonight for a little while so i did a quicky compression test. i yanked the schrader valve and had my buddy crank with the gas pedal depressed. the front rotor was showin around 80-85 psi on all faces and the rear was showin about 80 on one face and between 20 and 25 on the other 2. so i can pretty much say take it out and put me a nice street port in her right? at least there's a bright side to it

Mine has the same Prob - 90+ alround on the front rotor - 65-40-40 on the rear! Busted seal for sure
