Garfinkle relocated his lower on the rear sub frame, so has Rotorbrain. They change them in two or three minutes at a cost under $10 dollars for a threaded fitting filter (no pulling off stupid hard to remove hoses ). So simple and cheap to do.

Relocation of Fuel Filter

I've changed the Fuel filter 3 times on my FD. I guess about 30 minutes is about right, if you count putting the car on jackstands.

The last time i changed it, the filter did not come with new clamps. I had to get them seperately. Previous to that time, the filter always came with new clamps in the box. (anyone else have a simliar experience)?

I'm curious to how how much re-routing was done by those who relocated the fuel filter. I've seen some work which goes beyond my needs, using braided lines all the way to the engine bay.

My car is mostly stock so i'm not concerned about huge amounts of fuel being delivered.

to re-route the fuel filter I just spiced the hard lines near the tank with high pressure fuel injection line and then did the same thing with the new filter in the engine bay using nylon quick disconnects with viton o-rings

with this engine, you can't afford to have a clogged filter (or dirty injectors)

Why doesn't everyone take two pairs of vise grip pliers and clamp them down on the hoses on each end of the filter so when you take it off, fuel won't start gushing out?
It worked on my other car, but I haven't changed the filter on my 7 yet. . .

reason #1, it's too tight above the differential, where the fuel filter is located, to put a vise grip in there.

Just use a pen cap to plug the fuel line.

I did my FD in about 1.5-2 hrs and did my Buick this morning in less than 30 min. The Buick's filter was in plain sight on the side of the car. Two bolts off and the filter isn't even on a bracket!

Dood, get two pairs of small, needle nose vise grips. A mechanic's best friend; file them next to the hemostats.

I use them all the time - plus - you'll never drop another roach at an inappropriate time (j/k)

I've got to do mine soon. Thanks for all the advice.
Vice grips (small ones)
new clamps
relieve presure to system
plastic baggie for fuel filter once unhooked
extra shirts

did I miss anything??

guys, the relocation is simple. i listed pn's a couple weeks ago. its a simple GM filter. . . that works on a damn jaguar 12 cyl!!! the filter is by far up to par and you can get the fuel lines that fit it. i guess ill list them again. . .

f33144 fuel filter
800153 fuel line

theyre purolator part numbers. just get em wherever you decided to get em. run new fuel line to the point that you decide to relocate it to. the best place is on the rear subframe. i really need to take the pics of it. ill do it within the next few weeks as my car will be up on all 4s sometime soon!!!
