Did Mazda sell Touring Models Black on Black?
#6
The reason for the question is; I am in the market for a Black on Black 5speed.
I would prefer a 94 or 95. There are only 690 black exterior manuals, but I do not know how many have black interior. I assume the R2s have black interior, but I have never seen a Black (ext) Touring model with black interior. There were 235 Tourings in 94. I also assume that not all Base or Pep models have black interior.
To further restrict the cars I choose from, I would like something with less than 60k miles on it.
I am wondering how likely it will be for me to find such a vehicle.
I could open up my options to include 93s, which would give me at most another 2071 black exteriors.
Again, I have not seen any black tourings with black interior and if not this would reduce the total number by 1250
Viper u27 please verify that the car you are purchasing is Touring model, thanks

Maybe you should start looking for a '94 or '95 with less than 60k miles and worry about what interior color it has afterward.

No, they did not come out with black on black touring models. Sometimes the dealers mixed and matched options(My VR base model had leather seats from the dealer), even so, the door panels, carpet, or headliner would still probably be tan. A lot of people have done conversions from tan to black though so you may find one of those around.

Here's a link that may be helpful, although it doesn't cover interior/exterior production numbers. Not sure it's the one you refer too in your post? I tried looking/searching for ext/Int numbers, but couldn't locate any.

Thanks for the responses.
Mahjik, I just sold my FD and have my heart set on a black on black. I do realize the 94s and 95s 5 speeds are very difficult find with less than 60k, perhaps only a handful exist.
If the 94 black Touring model did not come in black interior, then that reduces the 94 and 95 original population by a third. That possibility may make a successful search less likely and very timely. An alternative would be to include the 93 models.

You'll find what you want if you wait and look hard.
It seems a low mileage, good condition FD is easy to find, look on Ebay and Autotrader often. Now you have to get the right color combo, so you'll have less to chose from but you'll still find one.
Then you'll have to decide if you want to pay for it.
