Did Mazda sell Touring Models Black on Black?

I have searched but could only find production numbers for exterior colors only.

Do you know of anyone that owns a black on black touring?
Do you know how many were produced?

Tom93R1 08-17-04 05:25 PM

That would look pretty sharp but I dont think they ever produced that as a color scheme.

adam c 08-17-04 05:36 PM

I don't know the answer, but am wondering why you are asking?

viper_u27 08-17-04 06:22 PM

damn. sorry to hear that

The reason for the question is; I am in the market for a Black on Black 5speed.
I would prefer a 94 or 95. There are only 690 black exterior manuals, but I do not know how many have black interior. I assume the R2s have black interior, but I have never seen a Black (ext) Touring model with black interior. There were 235 Tourings in 94. I also assume that not all Base or Pep models have black interior.

To further restrict the cars I choose from, I would like something with less than 60k miles on it.

I am wondering how likely it will be for me to find such a vehicle.

I could open up my options to include 93s, which would give me at most another 2071 black exteriors.

Again, I have not seen any black tourings with black interior and if not this would reduce the total number by 1250

Viper u27 please verify that the car you are purchasing is Touring model, thanks

there is a lot of them in Canada, because here in canada, the touring only have the black leather interior. You'll have facility to find them in canada ..

I hate to break it to you, but the FD hasn't been frozen in time. Original production numbers mean very little these days and most of the remaining cars have a lot of miles on them.

Maybe you should start looking for a '94 or '95 with less than 60k miles and worry about what interior color it has afterward.

wReX 08-17-04 08:27 PM

No, they did not come out with black on black touring models. Sometimes the dealers mixed and matched options(My VR base model had leather seats from the dealer), even so, the door panels, carpet, or headliner would still probably be tan. A lot of people have done conversions from tan to black though so you may find one of those around.

Thanks for the obvious. As I stated I would prefer a 94 or 95. The numbers are there only to illustrate a best-case (frozen in time) scenario and to help me decide whether to add the 93 models in my search for a low black on black mileage FD.

viper_u27 08-17-04 09:22 PM

yes, it is a true '93 touring ed. perhaps will post pics once i get the car in my possesion.

Was it? The point is that it's going to be hard enough to find an FD in decent condition with less than 60k miles without limiting yourself arbitrarily by year and/or model before you even start looking.

We know what you want. What you're going to be able to find is something else entirely.

Mahjik 08-18-04 11:34 AM

books,

I thought you already owned an FD? Are you picking up a second one or were you just helping someone else with their FD?

areXseven 08-18-04 11:34 AM

Here's a link that may be helpful, although it doesn't cover interior/exterior production numbers. Not sure it's the one you refer too in your post? I tried looking/searching for ext/Int numbers, but couldn't locate any.

It may actualy be cheaper (quicker outcome for sure) to buy a non-Black exterior FD w/Black interior ,........and paint it Brilliant Black.

jimlab 08-18-04 05:11 PM

Or just look for a black R1 or R2.

Thanks for the responses.

Mahjik, I just sold my FD and have my heart set on a black on black. I do realize the 94s and 95s 5 speeds are very difficult find with less than 60k, perhaps only a handful exist.

If the 94 black Touring model did not come in black interior, then that reduces the 94 and 95 original population by a third. That possibility may make a successful search less likely and very timely. An alternative would be to include the 93 models.

You'll find what you want if you wait and look hard.

It seems a low mileage, good condition FD is easy to find, look on Ebay and Autotrader often. Now you have to get the right color combo, so you'll have less to chose from but you'll still find one.

Then you'll have to decide if you want to pay for it;).

True...I found my Silver Stone 94 touring (only 115 made) with the glass sunroof, 58k miles, 5 speed, black interior. Just keep looking and save the green. I got mine from Fritz right here on the forum.

btw:I've got a nice MB car for sale http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...lor=&cardist=0

black93RX7 08-19-04 02:24 AM

I have a 93 black on black, 5 spd, touring with 63k miles on it. It was the first FD I looked at. I found it in Toronto 2 years ago. Keep looking, Good luck.
