Did I get a good Deal?
Hey there everyone, I just purchased a 1993 Mazda Rx-7 Touring. This car has a clean title, has 73,000 original miles on the original motor. The turbos have been replaced with stock turbos from another FD and have approximately 63,000 miles on those turbos. It has a Brilliant Black exterior with a Tan Interior. It is also a manual Transmission. I was told that this car has a strong clutch, shifts smoothly, and the engine is still strong. It only boosts up to 4psi because of an air leak. It might be a loose hose, I will have that examined. It leaks oil from the oil pan gasket. Also the antennae mast is broken. It has losts of little rock chips. Car is completely stock. The seller said the car has good pickup despite the 4psi boost, so would the compression on both the front and rear still be good..does it sound like it is still good? (I know you can't tell because each car varys, but an educated guess would be great.)
- Brand New Rear Tires (less than 1k on them)
the fronts still have 75% left
-Included all manuals and keys
-An Extra Fd rim with 50% tread left comes with it
-Aftermarket Headunit
-New brakes with about 10k on them
-All electronics work perfect, no cracks or peeling in interior
I paid 10,300 for it
here are some pics
Pictures came out a little smaller than I anticipated but I have larger images which shows some rock chips and little dings..I think(unless its the lighting)

assuming the boost issue is minor and all - sounds like a pretty damn good deal. I think FDs with blown engines go for 4-7 grand or so. So if the boost leak is minor, sounds great to me. What car 11 years old doesnt have rock chips! Take good care of her. WHere in NY are ya btw? I'm from NY too (hehe, though you might have already gotten that from my name)
I do keep thinking back on mine, 93 - bought in 2000 for $12.5 - with zero problems, 55k miles, and almost fully stock. Turbos were replaced by dealer for new ones at 40k miles, and ast was replaced for an aluminum one. Got lucky - seller was a rich old doctor who had too many cars and had to get rid of one

Those RX7s aren't great examples for the true market value! The first one ended the auction early, so we do not know if he sold the car or what he sold it for.
The second one is a automatic converted to a manual, which is a "No No" for resale value and originality of the car.
The third one looks very iffy with the very dark pictures, also states the car smokes on start up and leaks oil. I wouldn't pay much for those cars either. But to find a truly nice FD is a rare find and be sure to pay top dollar for a mint FD. Most FDs out there are abused and neglected, so be careful!

Speaking of reliability mods, would a single turbo be more reliable than the stock twins? I would be looking at something small like an apexi turbine. Seems to me there are more engine blows with single turbo setups as opposed to the stock twins but this can be in partial to unrefined tuning with the singles but still...

well, the turbo itself isnt that reliable... if you want a nice reliable turbo, look into Blitz but their very expensive. then, do you want the most hp or something to get from point a to point b?

I never heard that before, thats why I asked...I guess I might go with an apexi in the future when the motor goes...but for now it will remain stock...I just need a reliable turbo setup...
particle...do you know if the apexi is easier to tune since it produces around what the stock twins produce with bolt ons

it shouldn't be any easier to tune. any single turbo will require the same supporting mods and they all will need a stand alone ECU. if you want to go over 1 bar of boot you'll need a 3 bar map sensor though.

85 psi is kinda low compression. Thats under a 6:1 compression ratio. The motor should last still for a little while but it is starting to tire. You should be thinking about saving for another motor sometime in the near future. Also dont beat on the car every chance you get or else you will need that motor sooner than later.
You should still have not problem enjoying your car and it should still put pretty decent when you get that boost leak fixed. I dont suggest trying to mod this engine up the *** if you want it to last.

I had a FD before....for a year....then sold it..never even felt the second turbo kick....I don't usually push my cars hard. How long would you estimate that I have left on the engine? I know its impossible to predict but a good educated guess by experience or other means would be very inciteful. This engine will be left completely stock. Thanks

I have read that Ray Crowe is a great guy and highly recommended. I guess I will be giving him a call for some parts I might need in the future. Also can someone answer my question from above about the time span I might have.
