It take 300 hp for the Bugati to do 140 mph...to achieved 250 mph 700 additional hp were required.

So if you actually did 206 mph, your FD must have at least 600 hp (my guessing).

Well, I guess some good (bragging rights) can come from inaccurate police speed-measuring devices!

good bragging rights and a one year suspension on his license. IIRC he got it on video tape too.

Well a)it is not a linear equation, and b)1001hp is at the crank, while 478 is at the wheels which is probably close to 550 at the crank.

I still say 190 is very possible with 480hp and 4miles of road. Also speeding at 150+mph for just 20-30sec would probably feel like forever, so a sense of time is irrelevant.

got this from the Net...

" Observed results when Norwood was running the car with a super-high-output naturally-aspirated 302-inch Chevrolet small-block engine were that the estimated 550-600 plus crankshaft horsepower took the car to 199 mph. Norwood says experience indicates it takes almost 600 crankshaft horsepower to break 200mph, a rule of thumb born-out yet again when a Norwood Toyota MR2-turbo set a record in the 1.5-liter blown modified sports class after it attained 207 mph on 465 chassis dyno rear-wheel horsepower, an estimated 585 at the crank"

I hope you at least had the sense to thoroughly check out both the car and the road before pulling this stupidity, er stunt. Hell, even an animal crossing the freeway probably would have resulted in your demise.....just something to think about.

this is all simple stuff.

200 mph in an FD.

coefficient of drag (there are a few numbers as there's the 93-95 stock nose, the R1 splitter, the 99 bulldozer front end. there's a no rear spoiler, and there's a couple of different spoilers) so let's use one of the factory numbers for the FD.

coefficient of drag = .30

times frontal area that'd be 19.26 sq feet

times speed CUBED

divided by 146,600

equals required rwhp beforer a few additions for driveline losses 11% and 60 hp.

so:

.3 X 19.26 X 200 mph/146,600 = 315 rwhp plus 11% = 350 plus 60 hp = 410 rwhp to drive an FD to 200 mph.

how much hp does it take to reach the advertised 159 mph of the stock fd?

.3 X 19.26 X 159 cubed/146,600 = 158 plus 11% =175 plus 60 = 235.

note that the speed is CUBED so each mph gets much much tougher.

for instance 260 mph is 30% faster than 200 but requires about twice the hp (828).

a final thought.... at 150 on up you generally have about 5% slippage from the tire.

^^^Absolutely true^^^

fastest in the FD was 146 mph...this was done on an emptied George Bush Turnpike at 7 am Sunday morning. Still think about that run with chill...what if...

Another reason I don't drive the 7 all the time...can't resist myself from wanting the limit.

published drag for the 93-95 is between .28 and .3 depending on options.

if you run bigger tires your drag is more than above etc etc.

It would be nice to have that much extra power. I know my FD flat ***** and gets to about 145 or so, and then it is a much slower climb to 155....like another half mile or more for me, anyways. I haven't had the new engine maxxed out yet, don't really feel like it for some reason. I did 158 by the speedo with my original engine, and THAT was plenty fast. A skunk or 'possum or hedgehog would take out the car at those speeds, and we have a bunch of those little critters here in Kansas....not to mention an overabundance of Bambis...lol!

i though ratincat was only making like 380 at the wheels... I do remember a video of him on the way to rotary revolution where he had his needle barried past 180 for a good 20 seconds... It was pretty crazy...

fastest ive been was 185... calculated by rpm, wheels size and gearing...

i do plan to hit 200, possibly this year, but i have to be feeling pretty crazy...cuz going that fast really is just stupid....

why were you "bored" at 6am? I usually sleep at that time. OR I'm up cause I drank all night. If you drive 200mph under either of those conditions you will probably die.

oh and PS. I went 331 MPH the other day. not kph in my RX-7, which has a blown clutch fork.

When racing with sum other 7's at night with open highway roads I hit 175 according to tha speedo. Tha car pulled nice and easy..yea it started to slow down gettin to that speed but it wasn't horrible. I'd say that around 160 is when it wasn't pullin so hard.

Mods: H/F Cat, DP, Intake, FMIC and other none hp related mods. Stock twins, port, roughly 6k on reman.

he clearly stated that he wasn't sure but yet you broke out with a calculation?
is that reading too much into it? I don't think so.

But whatever. I does not really matter either way.

i did 170 in my FD with bolt ons.. speed has to do with gearing and aerodynamics which our cars are awesome with.

Howard is 100% correct give or take a few discrepancies of published data. I think the limiting factor here is gearing not total horsepower. 410hp is a commonly seen number on these boards. However with stock gearing the engine would be near red line. Having 410 horsepower at that rpm is something different. Also tire diameter changes as they heat up and spin faster. A 24 inch tire will spin around 840 times per mile. If the tire expands just 1 inch it will only rotate 806 times per mile. That's around a 4 percent difference; or the difference from 200 and 192mph. 192mph requires around 363 hp give or take a few. Just some food for thought.

Not enough gear to to that speed. Anything over 150 on a public rd. is ballsy though I must say. Thank god there wasnt any bored deer jumping that road. G

These high speed runs are way beyond ballsy I'd say these ***** are just plain crazy in their ***.

I get scared going 165 at the track and my *** is pretty crazy in fact sometimes I have to turn around and tell the little bastard to calm the **** down.
