Defroster Repair

Hi,
I sent my FD to get the rear defroster fixed. The mechanic is telling me the wires are not making contact on the glass. He tryed soldering it but it didn't work and didn't want to rist destroying the glass.

Anybody have any ideas? or know of any repair kits for this problem?

Thanks

Sebastian

Most parts stores carry "defroster repair paint" its just conductive paint that you apply where the traces are broken. Its very similar to PCB repair paint that you can get at some speciality electronics places. Ussually just some paint goo with silver or similar metal suspended in it to give it enough conductivity.

I used the permatex product successfully. You'll want a better paintbrush than what comes with the kit. You may want to use masking tape along the grid so you can paint straight lines. the breaks are usually visually evident. If your paint is too thick I think you can thin with acetone, clean up with a razor blade, prep with grain alcohol.

After you get the thing fixed and you've tested the defroster out a few times, you may consider window tint film, it will help protect the grid from scratches and future breaks.
