Deflooded, no CELs still no start :(
Hi all,
Following on from my thread...
... Tried pulling the fuel relay, tried the WD40 method, so decided the proper deflooding method was the way forward.
I pulled the plugs and to be honest they looked ok, they had a slight smell of gas but that was about it. I cleaned them up and set the blowtorch on them to clean anything my eyes couldn't see
I then turned the engine over by hand, nothing note worthy left the chamber holes, I then put about 10ml of 10-40 into the holes. I reinstalled the plugs, cranked the car and she ran for about 5 seconds, before dying again. Now I'm back to square one and she won't run.
I've added another gallon of 99 RON fuel, some injector cleaner and some octane booster so the contents of the fuel tank should be pretty healthy.
The only things I can think of are:
a) Fuel Starvation
b) Still flooded and should have cranked the engine on the starter motor to get the fuel out quicker than by hand
c) No spark (If I need to check this, how do I do it? Never had to do it to a car before and have heard some stories about ignitor packs lunching on themselves)
d) Knackered apex seal (I'm hoping not as the car was running very nicely before she was garaged for 18 months.
Thanks
Dave

u havent unflooded correclty
1) remove the plugs and clean
2)remove the big EGI fuse on the front crossmember
3) crank the engine over using the key for 20 seconds (u willl now see a lot of **** kick out,, do it by hand is no good)
4) now add a little oil in the bottom 2 spark plug holes (i used a syringe to squirt some in)
5) now tur the engine over by hand with a ratchet on the alternator pulley (i go 3 revelutions of the engine clockwise then 3 back)
6)replace the plugs and ignition wires makeing sure you get the correct wires on the correct plugs
7)replace the EGI fuse and try fire it up
try all this and let me know how you get on,,,then ill explain how to test plugs and stuff

Thanks for that
Just to be certain, should I completely disconnect the ignitor pack? I don't want any sparks flying around crappy fuel? and I also don't want the pack burning itself out.
Sorry if it sounds dumb, my prelude lunched its pack once, I just wanted to make sure the 7 wasn't as sensitive

i think when you remove the EGI fuse this stops the ECU doing anything so i beleive the spark plugs dont even fire.
The only thing i can see wrong with the way you unflooded was you didnt crank the engine using the starter (u will see loads of fuel mist come out the spark plug holes,, theres no way manually cranking can get all this out),,, give it a whirl then give us some feed back,,, thanks

do me a favour,,,when you crank it over to unflood listen to the air pulses out of the spark plug holes,,,,there should be 2 distinct puffs ,,,, like puff front,,,,puff back,,,puff front,,, puff back..
^ thanks again.
As I say I was a little nervous about burning the ignitor out or something lighting up. I'll try it again. The fact she started and ran for 5 or so seconds must mean that there is nothing that wrong with her.
Thanks again!

let me know how you get on after a flood unflood,,,, (could be that an injector is leaking or dumping,,, so the motor is flooding out after 5 seconds,,, when it ran for 5 seconds did it sound ok)
^ it sounded quite nice, it sounded like the cat was rattling on something but other than that it appeared ok.
I'll try and get it done again one night this week and then Ill report back.
Thanks!

that problem you're having actually happened to me last year after not using my FD for 6 months.. try all of these steps and hopefully youll get her running! do the following steps
-Clean the spark plugs, then pour some ATF(automatic tranny fluid) right at the holes or right at the sparkplugs (don't put too much) this should give you combustion.
- also check your Catalytic converter. Remove the Cat and do the inspection. A bright LED flash light would help. put the light through your CAT and you should see it on the other end, If CAT is bad just do the old trick make it a Dummy CAT until you get a new one.
hope that helps.

Also when I did the rats nest and fuel lines, I pulled the UIM and fuel rail to give them a bit of a clean so the whole system would have been dry. If there was a fuel starvation issue then surely with the system dry the car wouldn't have started first time a week or so ago?
I think my mistake came from only letting it run for 3 or 4 minutes, something I'd never done - I foolishly assumed that'd be long enough to get a little bit of heat into her.
Thanks for all the info though, I'll do a proper deflood this weekend and if she doesn't run, I'll post up about testing the fuel system.
Thanks for all the help and suggestions

Can't say I'm not over the moon
I finally got the bugger unflooded, I had to pull the plugs 3 times, crank the engine, inject a shitload of 10-40 into the leading chambers to help build compression up and then finally :bounce:
She's smoking a little in the video as she was still clearing her lungs and burning the excess fuel and oil, 20 minutes later this had all cleared up; she sounds damn sweet now which is a relief.
Can't say I've not had my scares today, this failed and still flooded moment scared the **** out of me; my first experience of a back fire. (The camera didn't really capture the volume of it, or maybe I'm soft)
And this was the initial start-up, with something not firing properly. Luckily after a huge cough and splutter she cleared up.
Just need to fix the rev counter, speedo lights, fit the new water bottle and fog light and I can finally go for my MOT! A session at Donnington park just might be on the cards
A huge thanks for all your help
