Defi BF gauges to be installed shortly

My FD originally came with an "R1 Spectra Competition" boost gauge but the power source was never connected nor was the power/illum wirings ever present (night time wasn't so great!). I wanted to upgrade to a more reputable gauge so Defi BF's (electrical) were it.

Well, after some searching...it seems most people tap their wirings into the ash tray. So if someone disagrees, let me know...but I'll be tapping all 4 wires from the Defi Link Control II (red for 12V, orange for 12V when ignition on, white for illumination, and black for ground) into the ash tray wires. I'll be using the supplied solderless connectors. Hope it's not overload. For future optional reference and for other Defi Link Control II owners, where did you tap all your wirings?

Tam

P.S. ...if installation is sucessful, I will report back with how it looks, reads and video clips...I never seen a clip yet in the forum.

Just be sure you're not tapping the ashtray "negative" line that's dimmed by the light dimmer.

Yeah, I read about that..apparently, it's supposed to dim my new gauges too. The Link Control II has a dimmer in itself...you think that will be affected in some way?

The control II has it's own dimmer? Interesting. I'm using the orignal version, so I can't comment on that.

Just be sure you don't use the RX7 dimmer's psuedo-ground to ground the control box's electronics.

Hey buddy, i just did the BF gauges and they are sooooooo sweet. I have pics if you want to see. I tapped to the illum wire from the ashtray. i had my ign wire comming from the ecu, well long story short i got my avcr stolen, and they cut the wire, and i ran my ign wire from that since it was allready going to the ecu, and then i ran a dedicated wire from the batt 12v to the power source on the defi link 2. hope this helps let me know if you want pics

The ash tray will only get you illumination, unless there's some other handy power source. I tapped mine into the radio wiring.

Check it out..the gauges were installed today. My friend did the eletrical wiring (tapped ashtray and under cockpit areas) - I did the sensor to gauge. The gauges start up B-E-A-U-T-F-U-L-L-Y and even more so with the nice tripod from Frank (what should I do for the 3rd slot?). Check out the photos below and a video of it starting up. The gauges are pure red..not orange or between..it's pure red and lovely.

I decided to mount the Link Control box near the left leg by dead petal but the provided sticky-tape doesn't hold well...will have to think of plan B. Anyhow, enjoy the video especially as I've never seen a clip of the gauges starting up.

Hahha...I had just about same amount of gas as he did in that photo. Filled up with gas though during my test drive with new gauges. Gas is now a whopping $2.89/premium!

The video is down, I'd love to see it. Anyone?

My Defi BF boost gauge, Oil Press, and Fuel Press are on the way right now. Along with the control unit and Link Display system. Any additional info on the install would be great.

I connected all my control unit wires from the radio harness.. you basically got everything you need within the radio harness.
