decided on scoot hood thanks! now f/g or c/f?
Ok...
I decided on the Scoot hood, so now I have to decided between Carbon Fiber and Fiberglass. What are the advantages/disadvantages? I have done alot of searching but havent seen many comments about the practicality of either. My car is black, otherwise I would not even consider the c/f hood. I plan on having my car painted in a few months so I also don't have much of a problem with getting the fiberglass one. In otherwords the cost at 1100 VS 1400, is about equal since I have to paint the fiberglass, so what are the advantages/disadvantages? It may look cool on a black car, but then again may look like rice! What about things like Weight, durability, flexibility, etc?

c/f scoot hood
rotary extremes fits good because they fixed the problems in the mold that the original hood has. he added some meat by the headlights. why, because it easier to sand it away than to add it and how would you fill the gaps if you had a c/f hood. the fitmint is great and even guys in japan are buying the c/f hood from him because they only sell the fiberglass in japan.

I say go with the fiberglass. You can have it worked on before you paint it (IE, get it to fit perfectly..)
Even if you get the CF, I would paint it, it does looks like rice when unpainted.

I went with the fiberglass. Not installed yet but if you are planning on painting it, what's really the point in CF? Why pay a few hundred more and endure a longer wait for what might be 2-3 lbs.
Plus there's a thread around here somewhere that warns about sun exposure with Carbon Fiber.

Ihave the CF scoot hood and have pondered painting it. I stayed the stock color Montego Blue on my 7. The reason I fell for the CF instead of the FG is durability. I like to think I can close my hood w/o it chipping or cracking a corner. Hope I was of some help.

You are wrong. The original Scoot hood only fits the stock r1/r2 strut bar. So is the replica one. It only fits the R1/R2 strut bar. If you want to fit other kinds of strut bar such as the Cusco one, you will have to cut a slot on the center air duct.
You don't have either one right? No wonder your info is wrong.

I was thinking of changing the center air duct anyways to vent air to the SMIC. I have asked this befoe with no real response but wouldn't that be BETTER than the normal center duct channeling the air to the 'back' of the compartment. I was envisioning something that blocked off the regular channel and shortly after the 'scoop' forced air down to my SMIC.
Am I missing something in this§

The duct is sitting on top of the IC duct. If you have the M2 intercooler, the hood probalby won't even fit with the IC duct because the IC duct sits too high. It fits with the stock IC duct and also the PFS IC duct. You can open up a hole on the inlet duct right above the IC duct and route a hose to your IC duct from the top. But you will have to block off the rest of the inlet duct to force the air into the IC duct. It can be done but it just takes some work. You can also make it a cold air duct. The possibility is endless. You probably can even do both: IC duct and cold air duct. Just open up two holes and block off the inlet duct at the end.

Oh well. Let's just say whatever fits with the original will fit the replica. There is another strut bar you can use other than the R1/R2. It's made by a company called Bomz Racing. Crashunit has one and he said it fits without cutting the center inlet duct. He has a few for sale I think. For those of you who wants a strut bar to fit with either the original or replica scoot hood, PM crashunit. He can help you out.

Basically, if you paint it get FG. The reason is that the CF unit is only a layer or two CF on top and not CF all the way through. I'm not sure if the real one is CF all the way through or not. So weight isn't an issue here. IF it was CF all the way through, the weight difference between CF and FG is significant.
Basically depends if you want to paint it or not. I'd get CF on a black car.

The original one is not offered in carbon fiber. The only full carbon fiber one is on my car. The regular carbon fiber one has the top layer in carbon fiber and the bottom layer in fiberglass.
I agree if you plan to paint the hood, just get the fiberglass one and save yourself some money.
