Question Dead RX...here are the clues...

Well, to begin with, I was on cruise control just under 60, tapped the break to come off cruise as we came into town. The tach fell to "0", and I coasted to a stop. The engine just turned over but would not start.

Now I have the extention manifold off and pulled the injectors with the fuel rails. I bagged the primaries and cranked it, no fuel. Also, as the engine is cranking, the #2 secondary manifold intake port coughs like it would backfire if it had fuel...HELP

Try checking your fuse box next to the battery. Look at the 30A fuse labelled "EGI", it is possible you may have blown it.

I have this same problem right now, and the EGI fuse will blow if there is a short in the system.
Do a sear for EGI FUSE on the entire rx7 forum. There are a few threads on the 2nd gen forum that will be helpful to you. It will tell you specifically what to look for.

Hello again,

Here is some more help about how to get to the root of your problem.

Go to www.iluvmyrx7.com and look under "3RD GENERATION' and click on "MANUALS". Now click on "1993 SERVICE MANUALS" if you have a 93 or "1994 SERVICE MANUALS" if you have a 94 or 95. Scroll down till you see the link "WIRING DIAGRAM - ONLINE VIEWING VERSION".

Do not left click it, right click it and save-as to your harddrive. When you DL it to your harddrive you can just open it there in your HD.

For reference EGI is short for ELECTRONIC GASOLINE INJECTION.

From there you are on your own...I am doing my own car right now, and if I find results I will post. I think that our cases may be different though since the problem could be a ground on any of the systems associated with the EGI fuse

Good luck

Thanks for the reply, I have all of the manuals already down loaded. And I have been going through the wiring diagrams...I did a pin-by-pin on the ECU and all seem to check out.

Another item I forgot to mention is the opening relay is not being powered with the ignition switch on.

Any thing I find, I will post, thanks again

It sound like you probably know more about what you are doing than I am.

I haven't had a chance to look at the car yet, but over the next few days I will be looking at it.

When looking at the wiring I did notice that the wire that connects the positive (rear-most) terminal on the battery was loose where it connects to the EGI fuse box.
