Dashlights go out when headlight switch activated

I've been search but having found anything definitive. Odometer lights, ignition bulb light, cigarette lighter bulb work normally but as soon as I turn the headlight switch once all dash lights go out. Maybe a bad dimmer switch or a bad headlight switch? Light bulb positions on the cluster doesn't matter, right? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Dumb one (I've done this) is your dash light dimmer turned all the way down? It's to the left of the climate control on the dash.

I've moved it up and down several times hoping it would work unfortunately it didn't make a difference. Wish it were that simple.

Could be something with that switch. Might be worth looking at the circuit and bypassing it to see if it still does the same thing.

Also worth checking all fuses and looking at anything aftermarket electrical that would tap into that circuit - radio, gauges, etc.

Figured it out. It is the connection between the dimmer and the connector. Its finicky. If I touch it the wrong way the dash lights go out. Manipulate it again and it turns back on. Just as a reference. Disconnect the dimmer switch dash lights go out, reconnect it dash lights come on. This with the headlight switch twisted forward once to activate the cluster lights. So either the dimmer is going bad or the connector is loose. I'm leaning toward a bad dimmer. For now I manipulated it so that it stays on and put everything back together. Dashlights now working.
