Incoming flood of ABS units and wrecked FDs!

Let's face it, if your ABS unit isn't working you might want to do it...or if you don't really give a crap...but I guarantee some kid who drives worse than I do is going to total their FD because they doesn't have ABS.

Excellent write up by the way. I find it highly amusing timing that this was posted like a day after I posted that I was speccing out my own kit because there were concerns over aluminum fittings in one of the commercial kits produced raised by my supplier.

 

yep no aluminum fitting here, only part that aluminum is the proportioning valve, i have being working on this write up for over a month maybe longer i just didn't had the time to do the install.

But just in case I didn't even had a clue that you also were looking on the ABS delete or brake lines, but im sure since your speccing out your own kit that you know you cant just come up with all this info that i posted here FREE OF CHARGE for all the forum member in one day.

Funny thing is that now everyone wants to be in brake line, or ABS delete business.

Maybe i should start a group buy!

 

Actually it took one phone call for and they did the work! Haha. Kinda like some of the products I'm having machined. Clients I've taken care of for years in turn are keeping my development costs minimal. =)

Haha, well im glad that that it only took one phone call for you, I had to do the homework on the lines because i didnt want to buy a off the shelf kit for 300 dollars with off road lines and aluminum fittings.

But at the end im very happy with my abs delete kit and feel pretty confident on the quality of it, and just like the other kit floating around they were both inspired by the same person in this forum jm93rx7.

 

**** I might just buy one of yours because it looks Alot nicer then mine and the red and silver will look nice in the engine bay.

Are you saying if you delete the ABS unit the car will not stop???

 

Please lets keep this to a how to thread,if anyone need more info on how to do this you can ask it here, and if anyone has any additional info that can contribute to this thread please also post it here.

I see now you guys are using braided lines I just used the standard brake lines that you have to flare and bend.

My only suggestion would be a post with the pics embedded, so that future readers can see the pics, long after they have disappeared from the external site.

 

Do you REALLY think that is what I'm saying? It should be apparent I'm referring that all things considered equal ABS should help you maintain control while stopping. Considering the influx of younger drivers with FD's I've seen over the last few years I suspect it would be better for the vast majority of them (and street FD's) to keep ABS.

There is a conversation in the Race Tech section about this IIRC where Brent Dalton...who tracks an FD more than 99% of the forum...weighs in on his belief that even on the track the ABS should be kept.

Hope that clarifies my statement. =)

 

My current truck was the first vehicle I have ever driven with ABS. Before then, its called threshold braking and learning how to drive instead of leaning on a crutch.

If you wreck because of a lack of ABS, you were driving too fast for conditions (traction, driver ability, vehicle capabilities) to begin with.

ON TOPIC:

This kit was very well thought out and researched. Great job and an AWESOME addition to the community! This will help all of the do-it-yourselfers and even the ones that just want to buy a kit from you. Either way, its win-win.

Nice thread. Kinda complicated for some and expensive. What i do is pick up a 2nd gen non abs proportioning valve some flare nuts and 20ft of 5/16 brake line preferably stainless as it does not expand when hot as bad as aluminum. Go buy a brake tube bender or brake tube bender sleeves ( they look like springs ) And a GOOD flaring and cutting tool. Then your all set to start making new lines after ripping out the abs pump and lines. Oh and dont forget to jump the wire to turn the light off the dash when your finished

 

Why do so many people want to ditch their ABS?

^^^it can be a great spot to put the battery, without having it in the trunk, in a giant plastic, or metal case, when running on the track (up here in CDN at my local tracks, it needs to be I that case, no matter what type of battery it is, so ABS is gonna get tossed like a salad.

Any comment on how the pedal feel is with all these braided hoses in the system versus factory hard lines?

Seriously considering ditching my ABS (I pull the fuse for the track anyway) because it's antiquated and useless and does NOT stop an FD quickly enough in a spin vs just locking up the brakes, plus bleeding the system if air gets into the ABS pump is dicey. I want to know I'm not going to surrender any pedal feel by giving up the factory hardlines.

Where did you find that 90 degree HF34 fitting you have coming off the tee? I've been looking for a part number to no avail.

 

That's one of the 10mm x1.0 fittings that will connect to the master cylinder, it's part of the hoses assembly and it was bend by my supplier, he used one of the long straight fittings to make the 90.

 

That's what I figured.
